Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many categories of items are there?

Answer: Six

The categories are as follows, in no particular order: Mage, Assassin, Fighter, Tank, Carry and Support. While there are five roles and six categories may seem erroneous or off in some way, there is enough deviation in how these roles are handled to justify a sixth item category. Specifically, the Offlane/Jungle can be very easily and optimally filled by big characters who aim to be Fighters or Tanks.

There is a massive difference between a Fighter and a Tank, justifying the two separate categories.
2. If I wanted to play Carry, and I needed to find a Carry item that simultaneously offers Attack Speed and Life Steal, which of the following suits my needs?

Answer: Sky Splitter

Terminus is well known for being a Carry item that gives quite a ton of life steal capabilities. However, it crucially lacks any Attack Speed whatsoever, often relegating it to the middle or back end of most Carry item builds as a result.

Sky Splitter meshes both Attack Speed with Life Steal, and throws in a highly effective Anti-Tank passive tied to it. As such, it unsurprisingly frequently shows up early in most games.
3. If I'm playing Support and want to passively buff my allied Carry's Attack Speed, which item allows for this?

Answer: Marshal

Marshal, when finished, permanently spawns an aura around the buyer. Allies which stand in the aura will experience a 15% Attack Speed increase. This is fairly significant, as Carry items grant anywhere from 20-40% added Attack Speed, so building Marshal is not far off from essentially gifting the allied Carry with a free Attack Speed item.
4. Having trouble managing your aura as a Midlaner? This item, which allows the player to increase their own max mana by killing minions, might be for you. What is it?

Answer: Azure Core

Azure Core does cap at 400, but the player will have likely finished another item or two by that point and should be sufficiently set up with max mana. At 400, the player also receives a boost to their Magical Power.
5. Seemingly made for Junglers, what item increases the buyer's movement speed when passing through a fog wall?

Answer: Berserker's Axe

This is an item basically any Jungler that deals Physical damage can use well, as the stats and movement speed boost make it perfectly suited for ambushing a lane.
6. A popular Tank category item, this one passively damages anything standing close to the buyer; the damage inflicted is based on the buyer's maximum HP. What item is this?

Answer: Fire Blossom

Fire Blossom continually deals a worsening damage over time to any enemy in melee range of the buyer. The damage does have a hard cap, but is based on the buyer's maximum HP in conjunction with length of time the enemy stays in melee range.
7. Catalytic Drive is a Tier 2 item that costs Tier 3 gold to buy. The intent is to evolve it into Cybernetic Drive, a fantastic item requiring legwork to achieve. How does the buyer evolve Catalytic Drive?

Answer: Basic Attacking Minions

When finishing Catalytic Drive, the player will have an instant kill on the next minion they use a basic attack on- this undergoes a 15 second cooldown on use. The player must kill 20 minions with this instant kill in order to evolve Catalytic Drive into Cybernetic Drive.

The key upgrades that make this item worth the hassle to acquire are huge bonuses to both Magic and Physical Armor, retention of the instant kill on minions to help with wave clear, and a whole boat load of Max HP, Ability Haste and tons of Magical Armor. This is a great pick for Tanks such as Sevarog and Steel for use against opponents wielding Magical damage that don't have standout early games, such as ironically another Sevarog, another Steel, or Akeron.
8. Orb of Growth is a Mage item that can be evolved into Orb of Enlightenment, an incredible item. How does the buyer evolve Orb of Growth?

Answer: Gain 500 XP

Once Orb of Growth is finished, the player must earn 500 XP through any means to evolve it into Orb of Enlightenment. This is basically a signature item for Shinbi in any role she could possibly see use in, and is also the Omeda recommended first item of choice for Iggy & Scorch. But it is realistically usable on any Magical character operating in a solo lane.
9. Alternator is an Assassin item that can evolve into Alternata. The player must land twenty Alternate Abilities against what to evolve it?

Answer: Other Heroes

This item was seemingly intended for Yurei and Kallari, whose Alternate Abilities can be used more than once at a time thus giving them the best chance to finish Alternata quickly.

That said, any character with a powerful Alternate Ability could make use of this. The only issue is that the Assassin stats on this one can make it an awkward fit for characters such as Zarus or Boris that may prefer items from the Tank or Fighter category.
10. Overlord is a Tank item, and a personal favorite of mine at that. It allows the buyer to increase their max HP any time they kill anything at all. What is the limit to max HP increase this item can provide?

Answer: There isn't a limit

Other scaling items, such as Resolution and Azure Core, do actually have limits. Overlord does not, so the buyer can continually increase their max HP until the end of the game when they buy this item.

At 100 stacks of Overlord, the buyer does gain a burst of an added 100 max HP. So you could say 100 is the "soft cap" on Overlord since no further burst exists beyond 100. That said, Overlord also provides Cleave to the buyer's Basic Attacks, and the damage this Cleave deals scales with the buyer's max HP. Since Overlord can increase the buyer's max HP infinitely, they can in theory get stronger and stronger infinitely as well.

Other items, such as Fist of Razuul, Fire Blossom and World Breaker, amplify the user's damage output based on their max HP. All but the latter are Tank items, and the latter offers strong stats for a Tank incidentally anyhow despite technically being a Mage item. One excellent strategy is to build Overlord first, then some or maybe all of the aforementioned items, as the player could eventually snowball with this set up if given enough time.
