Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mount Fuzzy
Answer: Rock-Candy Mines
Luigi's first step onto the rocky, rocky cliffsides of the Rock-Candy Mines will bring him to Mount Fuzzy, a stage that puts its primary foes front-and-center, forcing the player to navigate enemies that proceed around tracks that they will need to time properly to dodge. Early on in the level you can find a Mini Mushroom, and while this may seem like a risky power-up to take against these foes, it can allow Luigi to leap higher and further than before, passing over many of these enemies in one big jump.
2. P Switch Peril
Answer: Superstar Road
Although themed as though it could be a part of the Layer-Cake Desert, this Superstar Road level only unlocks if you collect all of the Star Coins from World 2, and it offers up a much more difficult and deadly course than you'd experience there. Instead of facing the normal foes of the desert, this level is a race against both the clock (set by P Switches) and falling, metal blocks that will crush Luigi if he happens to be too slow to reach his destination.
A similar level, Run for It, appeared in "New Super Mario Bros. U".
3. Current Event
Answer: Peach's Castle
This stage, the penultimate one Luigi faces in the main eight Worlds, is found right before facing off against Bowser (and Bowser Jr.) in The Final Battle at the end of Peach's Castle. Named as such because it contains both a rising pool of lava and electric charges shot between Bowser statues, it may prove tough if only because collecting Star Coins in it requires some meticulous timing, especially when you need to be conscious of weight limits on moving platforms.
4. Piranha Gardens
Answer: Acorn Plains
The Acorn Plains seem like the perfect place to keep all the Piranha Plants as they're nearly unavoidable for Luigi if he takes the path through World 1. Heading over the mushrooms to World 1-4 will give him Piranha Heights, but staying on solid ground will shuffle him to World 1-5 for Piranha Gardens, a level that sees massive Piranha Plants, but also Hammer Bros. and Koopas on the way to the goal.
5. Painted Pipeworks
Answer: Soda Jungle
As with "New Super Mario Bros. U", a visit to the Soda Jungle nearly wouldn't be complete unless you passed into the poisonous swamps there and found the Van Gogh-inspired level just past the ghost house. In "New Super Luigi U", this level is Painted Pipeworks, and it plays around with always-narrow, sometimes spinning, sometimes sliding pipes that Mario will need to cross to get to the far end of a deadly wetland. It's the fourth level of the game's fifth World.
A secret exit here will show Luigi a route to a portrait of himself!
6. Shish-Kebab Tower
Answer: Sparkling Waters
Let's face it-- all the levels of "New Super Luigi U" are short on account of their minimal time limits, but Shish-Kebab Tower might be one of the few levels that attempts to zoom you through. In it, Luigi will hop on a couple of speedy elevators, but the bulk of the hazards will be massive, spiked pillars that will protrude from the walls at regular intervals. What this means is getting a handle on Luigi's controls enough to be precise with timing and placement-- perhaps moreso than usual. At the end of this fortress, he'll face Boom Boom again, and be able to continue on through Sparkling Waters.
7. Under Construction
Answer: Superstar Road
Taking place in a Van Gogh-inspired setting like Painted Pipeworks in the Soda Jungle, the Under Construction level is actually found in Superstar Road, appearing there as the fifth of nine unique levels unlocked by collecting all of the Star Coins in the game-- this one unlocks if you 100% complete Soda Jungle.
Here, Luigi needs to cross a massive, nearly-unending expanse of poisonous swamp, but to do so he needs to jump and run across blocks which are actively being built and removed as he moves along.
8. The Walls Have Eyes
Answer: Layer-Cake Desert
Massive stone statues with eyes grace the level here, towards the end of the Layer-Cake Desert, and fortunately, Luigi's enhanced jumping can make quick work of getting over these unorthodox hurdles. Once players realize that some well-placed ground pounds can open up not only the paths behind these statues, but secrets within and beyond this level, they can advance onward to the World's secret stage, Slippery Rope Ladders.
9. Weighty Waddlewings
Answer: Frosted Glacier
Found in the back half of Frosted Glacier, the Weighty Waddlewings level is named simply enough to fit easily into nearly any World provided you expect Waddlewings to be gliding in those environments. The truth is that it's the fourth level in the snowy fourth World of the game, requiring that Luigi not only dodge their flightpaths (and the flightpaths of much larger foes), but slip and slide along mountainous landings and platforms that break apart under too much weight. Obviously, the Waddlewings bring some of that weight with them.
10. Three-Headed Snake Block
Answer: Meringue Clouds
Snake Blocks, in "Mario" series games, are chains of solid blocks that scroll through levels, forcing the player to maneuver along them while they take predetermined path to wherever they need to go, and in this sixth level from the Meringue Clouds, Luigi needs to contend not just with this unique obstacle, but a version of it that splits into three separate Snake Blocks at certain times.
This will, obviously, mean platforms recombining and splitting several times over to run luigi into enemies or, worse, dead ends of their own creation.
