Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which year was Loraine Allison born?

Answer: 1909

Loraine was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on Saturday, June 5th, 1909. She was the first child of Hudson and Bessie Allison.

On Sunday, May 7th, 1911, Loraine's brother, Trevor, was born.
2. What was Loraine Allison's father's occupation?

Answer: Stockbroker

Hudson Allison worked for his uncle's brokerage firm in Montreal.
3. In which country did the Allisons board Titanic?

Answer: England

When Mr. Allison went on a business trip to England in March 1912, he took the whole family with him. When the time came for them to return home to Canada, they booked First Class tickets for Titanic's maiden voyage, boarding the ship in Southampton on the morning of April 10th, 1912.

The maiden voyage included stop-offs in Northern France and Southern Ireland but nothing in Spain.
4. Did anyone else travel in their family group with the Allisons?

Answer: Yes

Whilst in England, the Allisons hired George Swane as a chauffeur and Mildrid Brown as a cook. They also hired Alice Cleaver and Sarah Daniels as nursemaids for the children. These new employees would travel on Titanic with the family.
5. Who had the Allisons arranged to meet upon their arrival in New York?

Answer: Mr. Allison's brother

Like many of Titanic's passnegers, the Allisons had arranged to meet with family members upon their arrival in New York. In this case, it was Mr. Allison's brother, George, and his wife, Lillian.

Little did George and Lillian know that the majority of the family would never make it to New York alive.
6. On the evening of Sunday, April 14th, 1912, with whom did the Allisons dine?

Answer: Major Arthur Peuchen

Major Arthur Peuchen was a close friend of the Allisons and had invited them to join him for dinner on the evening of Sunday, April 14th.

Major Peuchen survived the sinking while Thomas Pears, Victor Penasco and Walter Porter all perished.
7. While onboard Titanic, Loraine and Trevor Allison shared a cabin with their parents.

Answer: False

Loraine and Trevor had their own separate cabins where they stayed with their nursemaids.
8. Loraine was one of the fifty-three children to perish in the sinking. True or false?

Answer: True

It's believed that, some time after Titanic collided with the iceburg, Trevor's nursemaid, Alice Cleaver, made the decision to take Trevor to a lifeboat without telling his parents. So, unaware that their little boy was already safe on a lifeboat, Bessie and Hudson searched frantically for him until it was too late to save either themselves or Loraine.

Loraine was the only First Class child to perish in the sinking. All the children in Second Class were saved while the majority of children in Third Class perished.
9. Trevor Allison survived the sinking. Who became his legal guardians after the disaster?

Answer: His aunt and uncle

It wasn't until they were safe aboard the Carpathia that Alice, Sarah and Mildrid learnt that they, along with baby Trevor, were the only survivors and that the rest of the Allison family had perished.

Trevor's aunt, Lillian, and uncle, George, then became his legal guardians and cared for him until his death from food poisoning at the age of eighteen on August 7th, 1929.
10. In which cemetery is Loraine Allison actually buried?

Answer: None of these

Only the body of Hudson Allison was recovered. He was buried in Maple Ridge Cemetery on Sunday, April 21st, 1912.

After his death in 1929, Trevor Allison was buried beside his father.

The bodies of Bessie and Loraine were never found, although there is a memorial to them at Maple ridge.
