Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Don't go climbing in the Himalayas yet, it is still dangerous.

Answer: Yeti

...Himalayas YET It is...

The Yeti is also known as the Abominable Snowman, and is a creature of myth said to live in the Himalayas. As such he is the Asian equivalent of North America's Bigfoot or Sasquatch, in that they are all elusive, large, hairy, ape-like creatures that probably don't really exist.
2. No green monster will scare me!

Answer: Ogre

..nO GREen monster...

Traditional ogres are large, ugly, not necessarily green and eat people. The movie ogre, Shrek, is much more lovable and definitely green.
3. Though ostriches are fast, they can't outrun death.

Answer: Ghost

ThouGH OSTriches...

A ghost is the spirit of a dead person that appears in some manner to the living, possibly as a misty white cloud on the stairs of a haunted house, or by the mischievous ringing of bells or knocking things off shelves. Not all are monsters, but even the friendly ones can startle a person - unless, of course, they don't exist.

Note that though there's a monster in "Dungeons & Dragons" called a strich, this quiz requires that the answer span two or more words or the question.
4. Built from Lego, bling can be scary.

Answer: Goblin

...leGO BLINg can...

Flashy jewellery made from the children's building toy might also be rather clunky, but that would be a matter of taste. Goblins, however, can indeed be scary, being small, grotesque, trouble-making monstrous creatures.
5. Fetch up a cab, rascal, we need to get to Guadalajara.

Answer: Chupacabra

.fetCH UP A CAB RAScal...

The chupacabra or chupacabras is a monstrously ugly creature said to thrive by sucking the blood from animals such as goats, known in the lore of Puerto Rico, Mexico and other parts of the Americas.
6. Dear Kev, am Pi Redding's agent, but he only works at night.

Answer: Vampire

...keV AM PI RE dding's...

Probably the most famous vampire is Dracula, due to his many film appearances over the years, though Angel and Spike gained notoriety in the television series dedicated to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". The idea is usually that the vampire is undead and feeds on blood, sleeps in a coffin, abhors sunlight and is best killed by driving a wooden stake through the heart.
7. In Miami, no taurine creatures live in mazes.

Answer: Minotaur

...miaMI NO TAURine...

The Minotaur was a mythical half-man/half-bull that lived in a labyrinth, or maze, on the island of Crete until slain by the hero Theseus. Taurine is an amino acid present in many energy drinks, which, contrary to rumour, is not derived from anything created by a bull.
8. Do not roll over for the monster under the bridge.

Answer: Troll

...noT ROLL over...

The reference here is to the troll under the bridge in the children's story "Three Billy Goats Gruff". The nasty troll threatens to eat each goat in turn as they attempt to cross his bridge. He is outwitted by the first two goats, and vanquished by the third (and biggest) goat.
9. Try not to panic him, Erasmus, lest he breathe fire.

Answer: Chimera

...paniC HIM ERAsmus...

The fire-breathing chimera of Greek mythology is usually described as being a hybrid of two or more creatures, possibly a lion, a goat and a snake, sometimes with wings. A near relative is the Manticore.

(The alternate spelling "chimaera" is not acceptable here, as it is not found in the sentence.)
10. If you let the fight drag on, George will take care of it.

Answer: Dragon

...fight DRAG ON...

St George of England did indeed "take care of" at least one dragon, yet another fire-breathing mythical creature, though in this case more reptilian. Dragons play a part in the television series "Game of Thrones" and in Anne McCaffrey's books about the "Dragonriders of Pern".
