The jaguar is the largest and the most powerful of the cat species in the Americas. It can be found in Mexico and throughout South America and is numerous in the forests of Central America and Brazil. In the pre-Columbian civilizations of Peru and Central America it was worshipped as a god, but today it is extensively hunted as the ranchers claim that it attacks cattle, but studies have indicated that the attacks are spasmodic and not worthy of the hunting they have been subjected to.
