He actually starred, directed, produced and even did some of the music for this film. In the film Eastwood portrays Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Highway, who, after years of trying, has gotten transferred back to his old base. He is not as welcome there as one would expect for a war hero.
The base commander puts him in command of reconnaissance platoon. Recon is full of undisciplined marines and hard cases who try to get rid of Highway, but in the end he breaks them and molds them into proper marines in time for war. They become heroes themselves.
2. During the 1980s Clint Eastwood became mayor of which town?

He was mayor from 1986-88 for Carmel-by-the-Sea a town of approximately 4000 people. During this time he made just the two films "Bird" (1988) and "Heartbreak Ridge" (1986). While mayor he preferred to help out small businesses and environmental projects.

The last three films also featured Sandra Locke.

He goes along with an old outlaw friend who is killed by a sheriff who is as cruel as Munny used to be. This brings out the old ways in him once more, resulting in a killing spree of revenge.

He goes to the fights with him and enjoys annoying policemen. Clyde also saves Beddoe's life in "Any Which Way You Can" when he drags him away from a truck which is about to explode.
