Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I pull up to the park and the first thing I see is a big yellow roller coaster with many inversions. This ride seems extremely close to the parking lot. What roller coaster do I see?

Answer: Dominator

Dominator is a floorless roller coaster which means that there is nothing between your feet and the track. The first hill of Dominator is 161 feet tall, and there are five inversions (loop, cobra roll, and two inter-locking corkscrews).
2. As I enter the park, I see a huge street lined with shops and with a replica of the Eiffel Tower at the end. What section of the park am I in?

Answer: International Street

International Street has two rides: Berserker and Dominator. The Eiffel Tower is used as an observation tower, so that guests can see the whole park 275 feet off the ground.
3. Once I'm at the Eiffel Tower, I take a left and start to walk into another section of the park. In this section, I see four roller coasters. What section am I in now?

Answer: The Grove

The Grove is home to roller coasters such as Shockwave, Rebel Yell, Ricochet, and Hurler. The Grove also contains Triple Spin, Dodgems, and Drop Tower among other flat rides.
4. As I move into the Congo section of the park, I ride a Top Spin called Tomb Raider: Firefall.

Answer: False

This ride is no longer called Tomb Raider because Kings Dominion is not owned by Paramount anymore. It was renamed Crypt, as was its "twin" at Kings Island, during the 2007-2008 off-season.
5. After waiting in line for an hour and a half, I got to ride one of the park's most popular rides. It features two launches and it shoots straight up and out of a mountain. What ride did I just ride?

Answer: Volcano

Volcano: The Blast Coaster goes up to speeds of 70 mph. It features three of the world's highest inversions, and ends with a curved, 80 foot drop. It is considered as one of the park's most popular roller coasters.
6. I see a line forming outside of a big, white building. I go inside to find a queue line with an alien theme. I get on the coaster and it launches into darkness. This ride was the first launched coaster built at Kings Dominion.

Answer: True

Flight of Fear is a roller coaster that launches at 60 mph. It is fully enclosed in a dark (not completely) room full of inversions and banked turns. After hitting the brake run at the end of the ride, riders get off at a different place then they got on, so that the next riders see an empty train coming back.
7. I make my way to a 305 feet tall giga coaster. It has a racing theme, but it is mainly themed after what famous Nascar driver?

Answer: Dale Earnhardt

Intimidator 305 is the tallest roller-coaster on the east coast. One of its most intense features is the banked turn immediately after a 300 foot drop. This feature is so intense that many people have reported blacking out for a short period of time (2-3 seconds).
8. I begin to walk towards Anaconda. Like the snake it was named for, it is quite a long piece of track. What unique feature does the Anaconda have?

Answer: Underwater Tunnel

Anaconda was built in 1991 over Lake Charles. It has a speed of about 50 mph and has four inversions (loop, "pretzel loop", and two corkscrews).
9. I make my way to the Grove again, and I decide to ride a green stand-up roller coaster. What did I just ride?

Answer: Shockwave

Shockwave was built in 1986 and was the first stand-up roller-coaster built at Kings Dominion. It is currently the oldest stand-up roller-coaster in the United States.
10. While in the Grove I decide to ride El Dorado. What launched coaster used to be here?

Answer: Hypersonic XLC

Hypersonic was built in 2001 and was the first compressed air launch coaster. It accelerated from 0-80 mph in only two seconds. Unfortunately, it was put up for sale and was removed from the park in 2007.
