Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Genesis 1:1 tells us that God created what?

Answer: the heavens and the earth

Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

This is where all of life began. In only six days, God made the earth, the stars and sun, all the animals, and the first people. He rested on the seventh day.
2. In Proverbs 3:5, Solomon tells us that instead of depending on our own understanding, we should do what?

Answer: trust in the Lord

Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding"

There will always be good and bad times, and sometimes life may seem confusing and even hopeless to us. God can see far more than we understand, and by placing our complete trust in Him, we can be sure things will work out for the best according to His plan.
3. John 3:16 is one of the most beloved verses in all of the Bible. Which of these is NOT part of this passage?

Answer: God wants us to honor our parents

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

(Even though it isn't mentioned in this verse, honoring our parents is one of the Ten Commandments and is very important.)
4. "The Lord is my ____________, I lack nothing" What is the missing word in the first line of Psalm 23?

Answer: shepherd

Psalm 23 in full, runs as follows:
"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters,
He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name's sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
5. Paul talks about faith, hope and love in a very well known verse from I Corinthians. Which of these three does he say is the greatest of all?

Answer: love

I Corinthians 13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

In this chapter, Paul reminds us that even if we have strong faith and good hearts, our acts mean nothing if they're not performed with love. We should love God, our friends and family, and even our enemies, for they too, are His children.
6. The second chapter of Luke tells of the birth of Jesus and describes the angel's visit with the shepherds, who were very frightened at first. Fill in the missing words from verse 10. "But the angel said to them, "Do not be _________. I bring you good news that will cause great ______ for all the people."

Answer: afraid, joy

Luke 2:9 "An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. (10) But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. (11) Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.'"

The shepherds must have been very excited when the angel told them the good news! Even if we are not visited in person by an angel, we, too, can see the glory of God all around us. Enjoying a sunrise, seeing a rainbow, or watching the spring flowers bloom are all reminders that God sends us miracles every day.
7. In Paul's letter to the Philippians, he gives encouragement by reminding us that we can do all things through Jesus because He gives us what gift?

Answer: strength

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all this through Him who gives me strength."

Paul knew what it was like to have everything he needed, but he also knew what it was like to be hungry. His faith enabled him to handle any situation, because he knew that if he stayed close to God, he would always have the strength he needed.
8. In Matthew 22, Jesus gives us the two greatest commandments. In the first, he tells us we should love God with all our hearts, souls and minds. What is the second?

Answer: to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves

Matthew 22:37 "Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.(38) This is the first and greatest commandment. (39) And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. (40) All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.'"

This was Jesus's response when a lawyer asked Him which of the laws was the most important. All other laws are secondary to these, because if we follow these, the others will fall into place as well.
9. Sometimes known as the "Golden Rule", Luke 6:31 gives us what commandment when dealing with others?

Answer: to treat others as we want them to treat us

Luke 6:31 "Do to others as you would have them do to you."

Luke says absolutely nothing here about only being nice to those who are nice to us; rather we are to take the first step and treat EVERYONE as we want to be treated. This may be hard sometimes, especially if we feel others have given us reason NOT to treat them well. Getting revenge, winning arguments or judging others should have no place in our lives. After all, it is God we want to please, not other people.
10. Fill in the missing phrase from John 14:6. "Jesus answered, "I am _______________. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Answer: the way and the truth and the life

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

This was Jesus's answer to the disciples when they asked how they could follow Him to Heaven. He is our path to peace here on earth and our only way to Heaven.
