Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which farm animal might say to her best friend, "I feel so much better now all that wool has gone. Where are you going? I will come with you."?

Answer: Sheep

Sheep are known for two things; their woollen coat called a fleece and following each other. I often feel sorry for the sheep when they seem to be shivering in the fields after they have had wool sheared off. Sheep live in flocks and if one goes off for a walk, the rest will follow.
2. Which farm animal do you think the other animals were discussing when they said, "Are you sure that is a bird? It can't fly, it is really tall and look at those legs, they look like look like pieces of string with a knot in the middle!"?

Answer: Ostrich

Keeping ostriches on farms away from Africa, which is where they come from, is a fairly new idea in England. The first ostrich farms started in the 1980s. Ostrich meat is not yet as popular as traditional meats. Farmers can also sell the feathers and skins.
3. Which farm animal do you think might have said, "Nap time again, how unusual!"?

Answer: Cat

Although cats are known for sleeping a lot, they usually just sleep in short bursts known as cat naps. The average length of time that a domestic cat will sleep is around fourteen hours a day. They need a lot of sleep because they are small animals that use a lot of energy between naps.
4. Which farm animal do you think would say, "No, I am not going to do that and you cannot make me, so there!"?

Answer: Goat

Goats can be very stubborn animals. They can be farmed for their meat, hair and skins. A baby goat is called a kid. Perhaps human children are called kids because they too can be stubborn!
5. Which farm animal might have said, "Oh I am so lucky, that nice fox is going to look after my eggs for me!"? (HINT: Beatrix Potter story)

Answer: Duck

"The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck" by Beatrix Potter tells of how Jemima tried to hide her eggs from the farmer's wife so that she could hatch them herself. Jemima was lucky to be alive at the end of the story, having put her trust in the wrong animal. From this cautionary tale, we learn that nice words do not always make for a nice person.
6. Which farm animal could have said, "I hate Christmas and what is the fuss about Thanksgiving?"?

Answer: Turkey

Turkeys are often served at Christmas and Thanksgiving because they are big birds and will have enough meat on them for a large family.
7. Which more unusual farm animal might say, "I really enjoy my job looking after the sheep. It would be nice to have a friend of my own kind though."?

Answer: Llama

Although llamas are often kept in flocks, if a farmer keeps just one then it can be a very good guardian for sheep. When a two-year-old llama is introduced to the sheep just before lambing time, he quickly bonds with them and will be happy to protect them.
8. Which farm animal might say, "Right, the boss does not need me so I think that I will go for a wander and follow my nose."?

Answer: Collie dog

The black and white collie is a familiar sight on many farms. They do have other colour variations too. The dog is said to be man's best friend, so the faithful collie would always check that the farmer does not need him before taking time off for some fun.
9. Which farm animal said, "Oh lovely, white mulberry leaves. They are my favourite!"?

Answer: Silkworm

Silkworm will eat any kind of mulberry leaves, but prefer the white variety. The Chinese have been raising silkworms for over 5,000 years to produce beautiful silk for clothes.
10. Which farm animal, while rolling around in the mud, chuckled to himself and said, "What a wonderful way to keep cool! I wonder what will be for dinner today? I am so hungry."?

Answer: Pig

Pigs are very intelligent animals. They roll in the mud to protect their skin from the sun because they do not have a lot of hair or feathers like most of the farm animals.
