Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ron and Hermione are Harry's two closest friends. Who are Percy's?

Answer: Grover and Annabeth

Hermione and Annabeth also share an appreciation for intelligence, while Ron and Grover often offer comic relief in tense situations.
2. Although Annabeth has more in common with a different character, what role does she play in Percy's life that Ginny plays in Harry's?

Answer: They both eventually date the main character

Loyal Harry Potter fans know from the epilogue of the "Deathly Hallows" that Ginny and Harry end up married with children, while the Percy Jackson series ends with Percy and Annabeth still teenagers, and simply dating.
3. At the ages of 11 and 12 respectively, both Harry and Percy begin training that will help them conquer the greatest enemies their worlds have ever faced. Harry's enemy is Voldemort. Who is Percy's?

Answer: Kronos

They both begin training in the first books of their series; Harry in "The Sorcerer's Stone" and Percy in "The Lightning Thief."
4. Upon taking the enemy's body, Luke attempts to escape death by swimming in the River Styx. Harry's foe has a different approach to escaping death. What is it? (Not the Sorcerer's Stone!)

Answer: Horcruxes

Most of the seventh and final book, "Deathly Hallows", involves Harry tracking down and destroying Voldemort's horcruxes with his loyal companions. Created upon committing the act of murder, a horcrux is a separate piece of one's soul which can be encased in an object for safekeeping.
5. At age 11, Harry goes to Hogwarts to learn and to train for the fight against the dark arts. The place where 12-year-old Percy begins training is Mount Olympus.

Answer: False

Percy goes to Camp Half-Blood, the camp where heroes are recruited for training. Mount Olympus is the home of the Gods, where Percy doesn't go until after completing a quest.
6. Both stories mention many magical animals. Percy's two 'pets' are Blackjack the pegasus and Mrs. O'Leary the hellhound. Which of these is Harry's pet?

Answer: Hedwig the owl

Hedwig is Harry's snowy owl, given to him by Hagrid on his eleventh birthday. She tragically meets her demise in the seventh book after being caught in the crossfire between Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix.
7. Harry's weapon is his 11-inch holly and phoenix feather wand. What is Percy's weapon?

Answer: Sword

Percy's sword is called Riptide. Its Greek name is Anaklusmos. Interestingly, it turns into a ballpoint pen when he is not using it.
8. Hades is the Greek god of death and the Underworld. Is a personification of Death ever mentioned in the Harry Potter series?

Answer: Yes

Harry learns the tale of the three brothers during his visit to Xenophilius Lovegood in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". The story begins with the brothers meeting Death on a lonely, winding road. However, Dumbledore tells Harry later that although the three brothers did exist, he doubts whether they ever met Death.
9. Chiron, full of wisdom, plays a bit of a fatherly role in Percy's life. Who is Harry's wise, bespectacled father figure?

Answer: Dumbledore

Some of Dumbledore's words of wisdom: "Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."

Some of Chiron's: "Spontaneous combustion is a form of harm, Mr. D."
10. All heroes in the Percy Jackson series have a fatal flaw. What is Percy's flaw, one that Harry shares?

Answer: To save a friend, he would sacrifice the world

Athena informs Percy of his fatal flaw, only to admit later on that he has managed to save both the world AND his friends. It's interesting that Harry almost sacrifices himself - allowing Voldemort to pass through - because he cannot bear the thought of his friends dying because of him. However, in the end, Harry has also saved the wizarding world as well as (most of) his friends.
