Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This Biblical babe who started it all was partially responsible for getting poor Adam kicked out of the chillest club on Earth at the time, the Garden of Eden. I say partially because he also took a bite of the apple, so I suppose he's just as much to blame. Who was she?

Answer: Eve

Adam and Eve's story is told in the Bible in Genesis 2:7-3:24. Eve was Earth's "First Lady", if you will, and was cast out from the Garden of Eden, along with her equally flawed beau Adam. Eve apparently bit the forbidden fruit that set off a chain of events that continue to plague us to this day, assuming you take the Bible literally, of course.

When Original Sin is referenced, this incident is what people are referring to.
2. This Biblical beauty, a rather fetching belly dancer, was responsible for putting John the Baptist's head on a silver platter, literally. Name her.

Answer: Salome

Born around AD 14, Salome was the daughter of Princess Herodias. Salome danced the famous Dance of the Seven Veils in front of her stepfather so that her mother, who hated John the Baptist, could convince the stepfather to arrange John the Baptist's murder. I'm not sure if anyone actually reads anymore, but if you're so inclined, you can read all about Salome in the New Testament in the Gospel, Mark 6:21-29.
3. This celluloid seductress conned Fred MacMurray in 1944's "Double Indemnity" into killing her husband for insurance money. What is her name?

Answer: Barbara Stanwyck

Barbara Stanwyck starred in many Hollywood films and was famous for her portrayal of the head of the Barkley family in television's "The Big Valley" in 1965. Of course, at the end of "Double Indemnity" (classic film noir), we learn that "crime don't pay". Oh, and to also be wary of sultry type women with a motive for murder.

This movie was an excellent example of film noir (i.e., bad girl makes good guy do bad things).
4. Famous for such lines as, "Why don 't you come up sometime and see me?" and "When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad, I'm better," this buxom 1930s actress was one of the first true sex goddesses of the silver screen. Who was she?

Answer: Mae West

I guess all four of these women could be classified as sex goddesses, but the other three didn't come up with the comical quips that Mae West produced on a regular basis--which makes her tops in my books. Mae West starred opposite W.C. Fields in 1940's "My Little Chickadee", which she also co-wrote with Fields.

Although the two were not particularly amicable, their onscreen chemistry was undeniable. Mae West died in 1980.
5. This Dutch-born traitor, depending whose side you're on, sold Allied secrets to the Germans during World War I. Who was she?

Answer: Mata Hari

Mata Hari was shot by way of a firing squad for her crime of treason against France. Before World War I, she had performed as an exotic dancer. Mata Hari had, both prior to and during World War I, numerous affairs with high ranking Dutch and French government officials before her execution in 1917.
6. This bank bandit made a guest appearance on the 1960s hit television series "The Flintstones". She was a kindly old lady who was hired to babysit Fred and Wilma's daughter, Pebbles. Little did the Flintstones know that the woman whom they entrusted their daughter with was really a wanted criminal. Who was this fictional felon?

Answer: Grandma Dynamite

Loosely based on "The Honeymooners", "The Flintstones" aired from 1960 to 1966, on ABC in North America. It was the first cartoon to air during prime time. Alas, Grandma Dynamite appeared only in one episode and remained in relative obscurity--only to be found in "Flintstones" reruns for all eternity. Of special note: Alan Reed, who provided the voice of Fred Flintstone, played Sally Tomato, a mob boss in the classic film "Breakfast at Tiffany's". Audrey Hepburn's character visits him at Sing Sing prison in the movie.
7. Who is the black-haired comic book hotty that has had many hearts beating a little bit faster for over 60 years? All the while, she has twisted poor Archie Andrews around her little finger.

Answer: Veronica Lodge

"Archie" comics debuted in December 1941, incidentally around the time of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The comics have been in print since that time. In 2009, the writers decided that Archie would finally get married and they chose Veronica over Betty.

This by no means settled the Betty vs. Veronica debate. Much like the Ginger and Mary Anne debate, "Veronica or Betty" will continue to be a divisive issue well into this relatively young century.
8. This Hungarian honey moved with Eddie Albert to "Green Acres". However, she fought him every step of the way by wearing all the latest New York fashions, being disruptive and generally not helping out at all. Farm living wasn't the life for her, that's for sure. Who was this saboteur?

Answer: Eva Gabor

Zsa Zsa's younger sister starred in 1958's "Gigi" with Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier. Zsa Zsa was last in the news when she slapped a police officer in Los Angeles back in the late '80s. The show "Green Acres" proved to be a successful vehicle for Eva Gabor and also for Arnold the Pig, a.k.a. Honey Ham, and was actually his first starring role.

He would later give the performance of his life as "Supper".
9. Who was the Argentinean First Lady that "seduced" an entire nation?

Answer: Eva Peron

Eva Peron, or "Evita" as she is more widely known, became something of an iconic figure in Argentina. She was married to President Juan Domingo Peron. She was portrayed by Madonna in the 1996 film "Evita".

I guess Diego Maradona technically also seduced the same nation, but technically he was never a First Lady, so that answer would have to be incorrect.
10. Name the mythological temptresses that have led many a fabled sailor to a watery grave.

Answer: Mermaids

In mythology, mermaids sometimes used their powers for good instead of evil. Mermaids have a rich history in literature and legend, with stories about them dating all the way back to 1000 B.C. Tales abound of their haunting beauty and legendary, siren-like calls. If there is a cuter cartoon character than Ariel from "The Little Mermaid", I've not seen her. My apologies to Mrs. Krabappel.
