1. From 1974-1988, Jack and Janet Smurl were terrorized by a ghost in their home in West Pittston, Pennsylvania. What was the name of the book and film based on their experiences?

Answer: The Haunted

Whilst the Smurls were still living there the house went through 3 exorcisms and an investigation by Ed and Lorraine Warren, demonologists from Connecticut. However, it wasn't until a fourth exorcism was completed after they had left that the house finally felt at peace.
2. What is the name of the supposedly haunted house built after the Revolutionary War by Benjamin Stoddert, overlooking the Potomac River?

Answer: Halcyon House

In the 1930's the house was bought by Albert Clemons who mistakenly believed that he would not die if he added onto the house. Despite alterations such as a staircase that went nowhere, doors that opened onto walls and rooms without walls, Clemons died in 1938 after which, hauntings in the house increased. Ghosts reported to haunt the house include a phantom woman and Stoddart himself.

Borley rectory was the subject of many ghost haunting investigations, conducted between 1929 and 1938 by Harry Price, the founder of the National Laboratory of Psychical Research of London, and renowned ghost hunter. Price's experiences and findings were published in 1940 in his book, "The Most Haunted House in England".

The bhut is especially related to deaths by execution, suicide or accident and can be detected by its nasal twang, fear of burning turmeric and its lack of shadow. It can be avoided by lying on the ground, as it never rests on the earth.

A banshee is a female death omen that manifests to herald a death in the family. She is most commonly heard singing or crying but on the rare occasions she is seen, it is usually as a veiled woman or a figure flying in the moonlight.

Staus is situated on the shores of Lake Lucerne. Joller was a distinguished lawyer and member of the Swiss national council, but he was ridiculed and forced to leave his home after independent observers were unable to experience any poltergeist activity. The case remains unsolved.

Kelpies are malevolent water spirits originally from Scotland. They are harbingers of death by drowning and according to legend, nothing can prevent the tragedy from happening.

This haunting began in Decemebr 1965 when a family was plagued with falling bricks inside the house. Maria Jose Ferreira, an 11-year-old girl living there was said to be the cause. Initially, Maria Jose was amused by the phenomena as the spirits would bring her items that she asked for, but the activity became increasingly violent over the next 2 years. Sadly, the attacks must have become too much for her as she was found dead at the age of 13 from an apparent suicide.

Answer: the crying old baby

The Konakijijii is the spirit of a baby who was left to die in the woods. It is characterised by the face of an old man and uses the sound of its crying to lure people out into the woods. If you pick up the baby, you are unable to let it go and it becomes so heavy that it crushes you.

Answer: Eleonore Zugun

When Eleonore was 12 she was on the way to her grandmother's home when she found some money. She spent it on sweets which she ate herself, without sharing with her cousins. When her grandmother found out, she said that Eleonore had found money left by the devil and so eating the sweets meant that she had eaten the devil.

The poltergeist attacks began the next day and Eleonore went through many investigations, examinations and exorcisms until the phenomena finally stopped when she went through puberty.
