Aquamarine is a form of beryl. True to its name its variety of shades are usually in blue or green. Sometimes the blue shade of this particular gem turn to white when exposed to light. Some cultures believed aquamarine had healing properties and sailors believed the gem would give them safe travels while they faced the dangers of the sea.

People with the aquamarine birthstone are thought to be courageous and faithful. However, they are also believed to struggle with communication problems. My sister Abby is all of the above. She is often spontaneous, quick to jump to a rescue or adventure, but does not always think things through. She often gets herself into trouble because she says the first thing on her mind. However anytime any one of us is sick, she is the nurse of the family.

Diamonds are associated with strong relationships and love because they are one of the hardest gems in the world. They are formed under intense pressure, and brought to the surface by volcanoes. My mother is a hardworking woman and a steadfast encourager when our family has been through tough times. She is the one that always has hope and has been very courageous.

Although many people use white diamonds for special occasions, weddings, and engagements, diamonds come in a variety of other colors. Pink, blue, black and yellow are a few other colors of diamonds.

Emeralds are thought to give their wearers memory and faith. Its wearers are also thought to be very strong. Emeralds are thought to have the healing properties for eyesight, fertility, and headaches. Its green color also associates it with nature and life.

My sister-in-law loves to be outdoors and in her gardens. She is very patient with her kids and enjoys teaching them new things. She always has a smile. Although her family is small right now, she hopes to have a lot of children someday.

Rubies are associated with the characteristics of devotion, integrity, courage, happiness, vitality, confidence and strength. Rubies are also believed to enhance energy, generosity and bring success.

My brother exhibits many of those qualities in his relationships and his work. Although I don't think rubies are the reason for his success. He's a hard worker and often volunteers in as many charitable events as he can. He enjoys helping the needy, volunteering for his church, and helping his community. He is very honest and will always give you his true opinion.

It's wearers are thought to be truth lovers and loyal. They are also thought to be very open about their feelings and emotions.

The gem is thought to be a good luck charm for prosperity and protect one from nightmares. (I guess it's good because my brothers always had a hard time convincing me not to be afraid of the dark.) I am a quiet person, but am very open with my feelings among family and my hobby of writing.

People with this gem as a birthstone are thought to posses great insight and be good at giving advice. Sapphires are also thought to protect the wearers from evil thoughts.

My brother Stu is the calmest one in the family and often the most compassionate. He often attracts people who want advice because he is sincere and consistent. He is the one less likely to fall to pieces in times of crisis and is the one that always has an attitude of perseverance. However, sometimes he can be a little boring because he does not get very emotional or excited about anything. You know he's excited just by a grin. He's very good with computers and fixing things.

My uncle's birthstone, opal, reminds me of a rainbow because it contains many colors. It is nicknamed the "fire" birthstone. It is a perfect birthstone for October, a month when seasons change and go through many colors. Opal is associated with innocence and purity. (I am not sure that goes with my uncle, because he is usually the family prankster).

The wearers of opal are thought to have great imaginations, dreams, and happiness.

Turquoise is thought to give its wearers creativity and serenity. People with turquoise as their birthstone are thought to have success and prosperity. Because of its longevity, turquoise is thought to bring it's wearers long life.

My dad is a huge striver for education and success. He has many college degrees and awards on his walls, which give him great pride.
