1. Which town is the county town of England's smallest county, Rutland?

Answer: Oakham

Rutland was absorbed into Leicestershire in 1974, but became a county in its own right again in 1997. Oakham has a population of around 12,000 and has a 12th century castle, of which only the great hall still stands.
2. Which market town between Liverpool and Preston is the site of Edge Hill University?

Answer: Ormskirk

The Lancashire town of Ormskirk features the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, which is unusual in having both a tower and a spire at the same end of the building. Edge Hill University was originally based in Liverpool, before moving to Ormskirk in 1931.

Answer: Ottery St Mary

Ottery St Mary is a small town in Devon, ten miles east of Exeter. Coleridge, whose works include 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' and 'Kubla Khan', was born there in 1772.

Oswestry changed hands between the English and Welsh many times during the Middle Ages. It is the third largest town in Shropshire, after Telford and Shrewsbury.
