Secretary Stanton had him removed and put in Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas Prison, off Key West, Flordia in 1867. During an outbreak of yellow fever he volunteered his services and saved lives of solders and prisoners. Dr. Mudd was granted a pardon in February, 1869.
