Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Welcome to the museum! We will begin our tour through this vast building of wonder in a moment, but first we should cover some basics about the Oreo cookie. Which one of these statements does NOT describe an Oreo?

Answer: all of these are true

The traditional Oreo is a cookie sandwich made with two black cookies sealed together with white icing. Usually an Oreo cookie will have an imprinted design that says Oreo on it.
2. Our first stop is the kitchen, where we will pass out free Oreos. Oreos are useful for baking desserts! Which one of these desserts is NOT usually a dessert that uses Oreos?

Answer: lemon cake

Oreos can be crushed up and dipped in chocolate bark to create many deserts such as crushed cookie balls. They are also a wonderful topping for chocolate pudding. There are also many varieties of pies that can be made from Oreos. However, I have never seen a lemon cake made from chocolate Oreos.
3. To learn about Oreos, it is good to learn about the wonderful people that made them. The company that created Oreos was constructed when several baking companies merged together in 1898. As we approach the Founder's wing, what was the name of the company that created Oreos?

Answer: National Biscuit Company

The National Biscuit Company was formed in 1898 when several baking companies merged together. Eventually the National Biscuit Company shortened its name to NaBisCo.
4. Oreos are wonderful cookies, but the company that made them was also responsible for making another famous cookie, that is shown in this colorful circus display. What is the name of these childhood cookies that were shaped into animal-like designs, and placed in a box that resembled a cage?

Answer: Barnum's Animal Cookies

NaBisCo has made many famous cookies. Barnum's Animal Cookies were one of the first cookie that the National Biscuit Company (now NaBisCo) made, when the baking companies merged together. Barnum's Animal Cookies were introduce in 1902, ten years before the Oreo.
5. Now please step this way as we explore the Oreo History Hall. Oreos were introduced during a memorable year. During which of these years, did Titanic sink, New Mexico was admitted as a state in the United States, the Republic of China was established, AND the Oreo was introduced?

Answer: 1912

NaBisCo introduced the Oreo in 1912, ten years after they began to produce Barnum's Animal Cookies. Since the Oreo's introduction in 1912, NaBisCo has produced over 362 billion Oreos.
6. Moving on to the display with the revolving sun on top, we find can see the Oreo was not the first of its kind. Which of these cookies, was manufactured by the Sunshine Company, and was introduced in the same year the Boy Scouts of American were incorporated by William D. Boyce?

Answer: the Hydrox cookie

The Hydrox cookie was manufactured by the Sunshine Biscuits Company in 1908. Oreos became more successful than the Hydrox cookie, because of NaBisCo's push for it in advertising. Eventually Sunshine Biscuits was bought by Keebler in 1996, which reformed the Hydrox cookie into Keebler's Droxies.
7. We now go to Flavor Hall, where we can see the various flavors of the Oreo cookie! Speaking of flavors, this green display holds an unusual flavor of the Oreo. Which of these flavors is noticeable in the green icing and its taste could be compared to the traditional candy cane, or a chocolate York patty?

Answer: Cool Mint Creme

Cool Mint Creme Oreos usually come doubled stuffed! The mint icing is green, and is held between two chocolate Oreo disks!
8. This yellow display shows one Oreo that was not too popular, and its production ended rather quickly. Which of these flavors was introduced in the late 1920's, and comes from a yellow sour fruit?

Answer: lemon

The lemon meringue Oreo was Nabisco's first attempt at flavored varieties of the chocolate cookies.
9. Oreos have come in many varieties over the years with tons of flavors. Which one of these flavors was not an Oreo cookie flavor in 2007?

Answer: prune passion

Peanut butter creme, chocolate creme, and cool mint creme were all flavors during 2007. Prune passion has not been a flavor as of 2007.
10. We are now ending our little tour of the museum, but before we go lets wrap it up with some final Oreo trivia! Which one of these is not a true statement about the Oreo?

Answer: former United States President Andrew Jackson tasted the first Oreo cookie

Andrew Jackson did NOT taste an Oreo cookie, because Oreos were invented during 1898. Oreos were first sold in the United States, 30 cents a pound, and were packaged in novel tin cans with a glass cover. Oreos have also come in golden varieties (where the Oreo is a vanilla cookie instead of chocolate). When Dreamwork's "Shrek" movie came out in 2001, NaBisCo produced a limited "Shrek" edition of the Oreos to go along with the new movie.
