At the end of "Thor Ragnarok" the ending credit sequence showed Thanos' ship towering behind the Asgardian refugee ship. The start of "Avengers: Infinity War" had a distress signal asking for help telling whoever responded it was not a war vessel and that they had little soldiers.

Inside, what was left of the Asgardian ship were many, many dead Asgardians including an injured Heimdall and Thor. After a brief battle between Hulk and Thanos, Heimdall used what was left of his power to send an unconscious Hulk to safety. Thanos told him that was a mistake and stabbed Heimdall in the heart killing him. Easter Egg: The man sending the distress call was the first "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh.

Groot needed to "go" badly so Rocket told him to tinkle in the cup and that he and Thor weren't looking. Thor told Groot to pour what's in the cup out into space and go in the cup again. They taught Groot on Asgard as an elective.

Thor, Rocket and Groot left for Nidavellir to get Thor a new weapon. Somehow on Knowhere, Thanos kidnapped Gamora and took her to his ship. Meanwhile, the remaining Guardians (Star Lord, Mantis, Drax) arrived on Titan just as Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man arrived. Spider-Man wrapped up Mantis with his webbing, Quill held on to Spider-Man and Iron Man threatened to shoot Quill.

Tony: "Yeah I'll do you one better. Who is Gamora?"
Drax: "I'll do you one better. Why is Gamora?"

The ship carrying Iron Man, Dr. Strange and Spider-Man crash landed on Titan and so they slowly began to explore. Not long afterwards they were attacked by the Guardians who mistakenly thought they were with Thanos.

After Thanos got Eitri to make the Gauntlet for him he killed all of the dwarves despite Eitri thinking if he made the Gauntlet he'd spare them. Thanos then made permanent metal molded over Eitri's hands making it impossible for him to make anything else again.

With Thor and Rocket's help Eitri managed to make Stormbreaker for Thor who nearly died manually restarting Nidavellir. As Thor looked to be dying Eitri was looking for Stormbreaker's handle but couldn't find it. So Groot extended his limbs, grabbed onto the axe and chopped it off giving Stormbreaker a handle.

Thanos activated the Gauntlet during the Battle of Wakanda. Thanos then returned to Wakanda after a short visit in the Soul Stone where a young Gamora was. Bucky "Winter Soldier" Barnes, T'Challa, Groot, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Mantis, Drax, Quill, Dr. Strange, Spider-Man, Maria Hill and Nick Fury all disappeared.

This does not include the numerous civilians on Earth, the others in Wakanda and other planets who also disappeared due to Thanos snapping his fingers.
