Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What color was the flower Aidan brought to Katie's funeral?

Answer: white

White stands for purity (or death in most Asian cultures), and the scene where you first see the rose is very gray and dark so it sort of pops out. It was just so obvious it screamed "symbolism". (Through most of the movie my friend and I were going "That's symbolism right there." It's that dang AP training!)
2. What kept happening to Rachel as she was searching for a "cure"?

Answer: nose bleeds

I'm trying to figure this one out... was it just spitefulness on the girl's part or did it mean they were getting close to something important... or maybe the fly -- that stupid fly!
3. What was happening practically throughout the entire movie?

Answer: it was raining

Rain is always symbolic, and it extends further then just the fact that they live in Washington. I mean, they picked Washington for a reason, right?
4. Becca and Samara looked very much alike at certain moments throughout the movie.

Answer: True

I don't know if this was on purpose or what, but when Becca's hair covered her face and she looked up at Rachel, she looked so much like Samara it's not normal.
5. What color were the leaves on that weird tree?

Answer: red

6. How did Samara's father kill himself?

Answer: electrocution

There has to be something there -- there was water everywhere! And you were, of course, shouting at Rachel not to step in it.
7. What substance turned up when ever someone was going to die?

Answer: water

I found this to be the "I died in water and now I'm going to kill you to be mean" sort of mentality on Samara's part.
8. When a person who had seen the tape got near a horse, the horse spontaneously dropped dead.

Answer: False

The horses freaked out and drowned themselves. I've gotten some flack for this, so I'm just going to say that my point was that even though the horses kept her up at night, it was her father that didn't care much for her and locked her in the barn with the horses.

The horses were just being animals, and you can't blame them for keeping her awake. I think this is misplaced anger on Samara's part.
9. What sound related to televisions was repeated frequently though out the movie?

Answer: static

Not just static but pure TV fuzz! It's especially creepy because most TV's now have that blue screen option. It's like the deterioration of the mind... which is apparently happening because of all of the different sorts of waves in the air (according to Katie).
10. What happened at the end of the movie (besides static)?

Answer: flashes of pictures

This probably isn't so much symbolism as subliminal messages. And it was freaky how the static got really loud- it was the only time in the whole movie where I actually closed my eyes- I deal with scary situations very oddly.
