Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which cat is a silver/grey and black tom and is the unofficial leader of the tribe when Old Deuteronomy is not around?

Answer: Munkustrap

Munkustrap is usually the narrator of the story. This is shown in "The Old Gumbie Cat" and "The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles" songs, especially in the latter as he narrates the whole song. He is very protective of the tribe. In the film, he was portrayed by Michael Gruber.
2. One of the cats has a huge fluffy mane and is a really big show off. What is his name?

Answer: Rum Tum Tugger

Rum Tum Tugger is shown to be a Maine Coon cat, mostly due to the mane he wears. During his song "The Rum Tum Tugger", he flirts with most of the queens that venture near him. The kittens adore him. In the video, the kitten who screams towards the end of the song is Etcetera. He is portrayed by John Partridge in the film version.
3. Onto a queen now. Who is the cat who is shunned by the tribe until the very end?

Answer: Grizabella

Grizabella is perhaps the most recognisable character from the musical. She wears a ragged coat, with a sparkly sequined dress underneath it. She usually walks quite slowly and is shown to be quite an old looking cat. Grizabella has her own song in the show "Grizabella the Glamour Cat".

She sings the song "Memory", easily the most well known song from the musical. In the film version, she is portrayed by Elaine Paige.
4. The name of the "White Cat" is Jemima.

Answer: False

Victoria is the cat nicknamed by fans as the "White Cat", due to her striking all white costume. She does not have any singing solos, but she is the cat who does the dance with Mistoffelees/Quaxo in "Invitation to the Jellicle Ball". In the film version, she is portrayed by Phyllida Crowley Smith.
5. What are the Mystical Twins' real names?

Answer: Tantomile and Coricopat

Tantomile (a queen) and Coricopat (a tom) are identical twins. They have striped costumes, which suggests that they could be tabby cats. They are believed to be psychic or somehow magical. In the film version, Tantomile is portrayed by Kaye Brown and Coricopat is portrayed by Tommi Sliiden.
6. Who is known as "Magical" when he performs his song?

Answer: Mr Mistoffelees

Mr Mistoffelees has a black costume. He has a white fluffy bib and wears a sparkly jacket during his song. During his song "Mr Mistoffelees", he dances around and shows off his magical skills. The actor who plays him usually shows off a number of fouetté turns, which is known in the show as the 'Conjuring Turn'. The actor who portrayed him in the film is Jacob Brent.
7. Who is the cat that is the villain of the show?

Answer: Macavity

Macavity is a red/orange coloured tom, although in the song "Macavity", he is described as being a "ginger cat". He has some magical powers, like Mistoffelees does. He kidnaps Old Deuteronomy until Mistoffelees brings him back to the junkyard. In the film version, he is portrayed by Bryn Walters.
8. Who is the "Old Gumbie Cat"?

Answer: Jennyanydots

Jennyanydots has a number of different costumes. At the start of her song, she is wearing a huge snake-skin coat, which is removed during the song to reveal a fluffy orange/yellow coat. After this, when she is in the chorus, she wears an orange, brown and white costume, so she blends in.

As mentioned in her song, she is "deeply concerned with the ways of the mice", which shows that she cares about other creatures, not just the Jellicles. She is portrayed by Suzie McKenna in the film.
9. Who are the cats that "are highly efficient cat burglars"?

Answer: Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer

Mungojerrie (a tom) and Rumpleteazer (a queen) both wear orange, black and white costumes. Mungojerrie is a tabby, whereas fans are unsure whether Rumpleteazer is a tabby or a calico. During their song "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer", Rumpleteazer wears pearls around her neck.

They both have strong Cockney accents in the film. Rumpleteazer was portrayed by Jo Gibb in the film, and Mungojerrie was portrayed by Drew Varley.
10. Finally, who is known as "The Railway Cat"?

Answer: Skimbleshanks

Skimbleshanks is a ginger tabby cat. He is called "The Railway Cat" as he is the cat aboard the Night Mail Train. Before his song "Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat", he is in the ensemble without a waistcoat and pocket watch, but for his song, he wears them. He is portrayed in the film by Geoffrey Garratt.
