Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Mickey die in "Return to Sleepaway Camp"?

Answer: He was burned in a fryer of hot grease.

Mickey was a cook at Camp Manabe. He along with others of the camp were constantly picking on Alan. One day after an altercation with Alan, Mickey was in the kitchen. The killer came up from behind Mickey and picked him up by his legs. Mickey grabbed the side of the grease fryer that the person was trying to drop him into. Mickey struggled for some time and the killer stepped up on a chair and got more leverage. Mickey's arms grew tired and he was dropped in the boiling oil. Angela had returned to camp to continue her murdering ways. This time she returned as the town's sheriff, which was kind of ironic as she was pretending to be a man.

Lenny Venito played the role of Mickey. Felissa Rose reprised her role of Angela from the original movie. "Return to Sleepaway Camp" was released in 2008. Robert Hiltzik directed this movie and was the director of the original movie as well. Jonathan Tiersten also revived his role of Angela's cousin, Rick Baker.
2. What kind of car did Ferriman find in the ship's holding area in the movie "Ghost Ship" (2002)?

Answer: Jaguar

Epps and Ferriman were going through the ship and were looking for the other crew members. They had just found the dead bodies of several people a few minutes before. Epps and Ferriman ventured in the holding area of the Antonio Graza. Ferriman discovered a 1958 Jaguar X150. He told Epps that he had dreamt about this car for a long time. Epps told Ferriman to come along so they could locate the others. Epps and Ferriman both heard a noise and went into a smaller room to investigate. They discovered boxes of gold that had been there for quite some time.

"Ghost Ship" had a stellar cast of actors. Among them were Julianna Marguilies and Desmond Harington. "Ghost Ship" was released in 2002 and contained a lot of inventive death sequences.
3. What super-hero did Heather Menzies' character make reference to in "Piranha", the original version?

Answer: Superman

Maggie and Paul were detained by the United States Army led by Colonel Waxman. They were not being let go because they knew of the secret experiments the government were doing on the piranha. Maggie had unknowingly drained the pool the genetically altered fish were being kept in. They came up with a plan to distract and knock out their guard. Maggie went outside and asked the guard if he was gay. The guard asked Maggie what she said to him. Maggie then pointed to the sky and said, "Is that Superman?". Paul then came out and knocked the guard out.

Bradford Dillman played the role of Paul and Heather Menzies played the role of Maggie. Maggie was looking for two backpackers who had disappeared. She went to Paul's cabin to get information. He told her about the abandoned testing site in the mountains. Paul and Maggie drained the pool because Maggie found the locket of the female backpacker. They unknowingly released the piranha into the nearby river. "Piranha" was released in 1978 and was directed by Joe Dante.
4. What was the name of the institution Esther escaped from in "Orphan"?

Answer: Saarne Institute

Kate and John Coleman had just lost their unborn child. They were looking to adopt another child to add to their family. The Coleman's already had a son and daughter, Daniel and Max. The Coleman's went to the orphanage to meet the children. John went upstairs and discovered Esther singing and painting. John and Esther talked and Kate arrived a short time later. The Coleman's brought Esther home and shortly after a struggle for power began between Esther and Kate. Kate called the Saarne Institute which she thought was an orphanage. She found out later that it was a hospital for the criminally insane.

Peter Sarsgaard played the role of John Coleman. Estonia was the location of the Saarne Institute. Isabelle Fuhrman played the role of Esther in the film. "Orphan" was released in 2009. It was a Dark Castle Entertainment production. It was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.
5. What was the name of the hospital in "Let Me In"?

Answer: Los Alamos

In the beginning of the film, we see a police detective that was questioning a man. The man was severely burned on his face, he had been rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. The detective asked the man if he was a satanist. The nurse on duty informed the detective the man couldn't talk. The man had also damaged his vocal cords. Abby walked into the hospital and inquired about the man. Another nurse informed her where the man was. Abby walked out the door and we see the name of the hospital on the door.

Abby is a vampire and the man was her father figure. We find out later through a photograph they met when the man was a child. It is not known how long Abby was a vampire. Owen asked her how old she was and she told him she had been 12 for a long time. The man died and Owen took over as Abby's caretaker.

"Let Me In" was released in 2010. The film was directed by Matt Reeves, who also directed "Cloverfield". The film stars are Chloe Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Richard Jenkins starred as the father and Elias Koteas played the detective.
6. "The class of '81 is running out of time" was the tag line for which movie?

Answer: Graduation Day

Laura Ramstead was running a track meet and fell dead at the meet. Her ex-boyfriend Kevin became extremely distraught. He blamed the other members of the team for Laura's death. Kevin thought the other team members had put too much pressure on Laura to win. He took his revenge on the other members of the team. We do not learn that Kevin was the killer until Anne, Laura's sister, faced him at the end of the movie. The movie in my opinion was below par for even a camp horror movie of the 1980's. It even had Vanna White in it which I didn't know until I watched it again.

The film was released in 1981 and was directed by Herb Freed. It was written by Herb as well as David Baughn and Anne Marisse. The movie was considered a success, as it surpassed it's production budget of $250,000.00.
7. What did Helen wake up to find in the movie "I Know What You Did Last Summer"?

Answer: Both of these are correct.

Helen was extremely distraught when she woke to the haircut and word on the mirror. It was not too long after that that the killer made his promise of 'soon' a reality. The killer chased Helen through her father's department store and into an alley. Helen almost made it to safety, but the killer got her at the last second.

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" was released in 1997. It was written by Kevin Williamson, who also wrote the screenplay for "Scream". The cast included Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Jennifer Love Hewitt, among others.
8. Who were the children of the Riverton Ripper in "My Soul To Take"?

Answer: Adam and Leah

Fang, also known as Leah, witnessed the shooting of her father, the Riverton Ripper. He was shot right in front of her. Adam, also known as Bug, was cut out of his mother's stomach and survived. The two were raised by their mom's sister, May. One night, the Ripper reappeared. His first victim was Jay, who was stabbed with a knife and thrown off a bridge. The rest of the kids were killed off by being stabbed as well. The soul of the Ripper had possessed Alex, Bug's best friend. Bug killed Alex with the largest knife from the kitchen.

I had been looking forward to this movie since I first saw the preview. I was extremely excited to see what Wes Craven had come up with. The movie did have some scary moments, but overall in my opinion it lacked. Wes Craven wrote and directed this 2010 horror movie. Max Thieriot played the role of Bug and Fang was played by Emily Meade.
9. What was the name of Ed Harley's son in the movie "Pumpkinhead"?

Answer: Billy

Ed had become obsessed with getting vengeance on the teenagers who killed his son. Billy was hit by a dirt bike when the driver, Joel, didn't see him and struck him. Ed took his son to a local witch to try to bring him back to life. The witch was unable to do this, but instead released an ancient creature upon Ed's request. The witch warned Ed that his request would come with a price. Ed was bent on vengeance and followed the witch's instructions. Once Pumpkinhead started his mission, Ed soon realized he would see the death of the teenagers as they happened. Ed realized the only way to stop the creature was to kill himself.

Lance Henriksen played the role of Ed Harley. "Pumpkinhed" was released in 1988 and was directed by Stan Winston. The film was written by Stan along with Richard Weinman, Gary Gerani, and Mark Carducci. I always felt like this film had a late 1970s or early 1980s feel to it. I learned that the movie was based on a poem by Ed Justin. I have included some of the excerpts from the poem:

"Bolted doors and windows barred,
Guard dogs prowling in the yard,
Won't protect you in your bed,
Nothing will, from Pumpkinhead."
10. Who played the role of Franklin in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", the original version?

Answer: Paul A. Partain

Franklin was the wheelchair-bound brother to Sally. He had a very poor attitude and always seemed to be complaining about one thing or another. When I first saw his character, something told me it wouldn't end well for him. He was killed by Leatherface while in his chair. Sally was taken captive by the cannibalistic family and tortured. Sally managed to get away from the family in the back of a pickup truck.

"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was based loosely on the true crimes of Ed Gein. Gein was not a chainsaw wielding lunatic. He did rob the graves of the recently deceased and make objects from their body parts like Leatherface, though. The movie was released in 1974 and was directed by Tobe Hooper. The film still frightens me to this day especially the scene when the girl is hanging from the hook. Gunnar Hansen played the role of Leatherface. Paul A. Partain passed away in 2005 from Cancer.
