Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1993, Leo starred as a boy suspicious of his future stepfather. Can you name the film? Its title may sound familiar to scouts.

Answer: This Boy's Life

"This Boy's Life" was based on the memoir written by American author Tobias Wolff. When Tobias's parents divorced, his brother and father moved to the east coast, and Tobias and his mother moved to the west. She married a man who turned out to be abusive. Despite this difficult upbringing, Tobias went on to success as a writer, eventually joining Stanford as an English professor.

In the movie version of the story, the stepfather was played by Robert De Niro and the mother by Ellen Barkin. The movie was filmed largely in the same Washington town where Tobias and his mother had lived.

"Boy's Life" is the name of the official magazine of the Boy Scouts; it began production in 1911.
2. In "The Basketball Diaries", Leo played a talented high school basketball player who was unable to resist the temptation of ______. What goes in the blank?

Answer: heroin

Leo's character, Jim Carroll, was a prodigy on the court, but pressures off the court led him toward illicit drug use and addiction. He spiraled down until he went to jail, then reversed directions and became a successful poet.

The real Jim Carroll published his memoir of the same name in 1978; it was formed around actual diary entries from his youth. A native New Yorker, he moved to California in an attempt to leave drugs behind. He also became a musician, collaborating with such artists as Lou Reed, Pearl Jam, and ELO before his death in 2009.

The film broke all sorts of records, won many awards, and earned Leo a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Actor - Drama.

Hoover was powerful, so powerful than even the whiff of scandal didn't dislodge him from the office, which he held under one title or another from 1924 to 1972, under nine different presidents.

Leo was nominated for several awards for his portrayal of Hoover.
9. In 2013, Leo starred as Jordan Belfort in the Martin Scorsese film "The ____ of Wall Street". What goes in the blank?

Answer: Wolf
