Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Being a computer hacker (as well as a political malcontent) Farrell twigged to what was going on. What did he call the act of virtual terrorism that they were experiencing?

Answer: a fire sale

He seemed stunned when he reached this conclusion and had to be prompted by McClane as to what that meant. He described a Fire Sale as a three step, systematic attack, designed to wreak complete and total havoc. It was called a Fire Sale because "everything must go" and explained that by taking everything at once, everything else would also crash.
2. What was the target of Stage Three?

Answer: power networks

Farrell explained this after McClane asked. When McClane commented on how the government had to have back-ups in place for these types of diasters, Farrell pointed out that it took FEMA five days to get water to the Superdome (after Hurricane Katrina). This observation sobered McClane.
Taking out the power utilities was a little more difficult because, although controlled by computers, those computers were not accessible online. The terrorists had to make a personal visit to shut down the power.
3. Taking Farrell with him, McClane appropriated a vacant police car. While they were headed to the next terrorist target, Mai Lihn came over the radio pretending to be a police dispatcher. How did they know that she was one of the terrorists?

Answer: Farrell recognized her voice.

After Farrell said that he recognized the voice as the woman he had sold code to (which is why they wanted him dead), McClane tested her by saying that they must have their hands full dealing with a certain kind of police code. When she agreed that this was true he pointed out that the code he mentioned referred to naked people. The terrorists knew that their ruse hadn't worked.
4. The purpose of the pretense (of being a police dispatcher) was to send McLane into an ambush, where they had a helicopter waiting. The helicopter caught up with them and a man began firing at them. McClane fired back, hitting the gunman, causing him to fall out of the helicopter.

Answer: False

In trying to avoid being shot, McClane clipped a fire hydrant (whether this was deliberate or accidental was unclear) and the force of the water knocked the gunman out of the helicopter. After this they drove into a tunnel that only allowed for one way traffic. The terrorists caused the lights at either end of the tunnel to move and McClane was caught between traffic coming at him from both directions.
Farrell got of the car and crawled out of the way.
5. How did McClane bring down the helicopter?

Answer: He hit it with the car.

The helicopter was waiting when McClane finally got through the tunnel. He ran the car full speed at some sort of abutment and then jumped out of the car. The car became airborne and hit the helicopter. When Farrell reached him and commented on the fact that he had brought down a helicopter with a car, McClane replied, "I was out of bullets."
6. Having determined what the next target of the fire sale would be, McClane and Farrell headed over there, only to find that the bad guys had already arrived. How had they gotten in?

Answer: in a helicopter, disguised as F.B.I. agents

Because the power station's main computers were not accessible online, a personal visit was required to disable them. McClane disposed of the bad guys (including Mai Lihn, Gabriel's girlfriend) while Farrell undid the sabotage that they had effected. Gabriel responded by having his hackers send plenty of gas their way, causing the building to blow up and accomplishing their objective.
7. How did McClane and Farrell get away from the burning building?

Answer: in the helicopter

They took the helicopter that the bad guys had brought and headed over to Warlock's place. McClane made it clear that while he had taken flying lessons he had missed a few, and his control of the copter was not good. When arriving at Warlock's house, they took out a fence on the way down.
8. Warlock was a friend of Farrell's and a fellow hacker whom Farrell wanted to consult with. Who or what did Warlock hate?

Answer: the police

Farrell warned McClane that Warlock hated police and told him not to let Warlock know that he was one. Of course McClane didn't play along with this for very long, and Warlock started freaking out that Farrell had brought the police into his command centre. McClane responded with a disdainful comment about calling a basement a command centre.
Warlock was played by Kevin Smith.
9. How did McClane manage to persuade Warlock to co-operate?

Answer: He threatened to beat him to death in his own house.

It didn't take Warlock long to figure out that McClane was desperate enough to do it, and so he soon gave in. Besides which, he had noticed some strange things going on, and his curiosity was piqued by the whole situation.
10. What movie series was well represented in Warlock's basement?

Answer: Star Wars

There was a large action figure of Alec Guinness in the role of Obi Wan Kenobi, and an even larger, stand-up, cut-out of the bounty hunter Boba Fett. When Warlock saw McClane looking at this, he asked him if he was a big fan of the Fett and McClane replied that he was a fan of "Star Wars".
Apparently Kevin Smith really is a huge "Star Wars" fan, and at one point in the credits the m in his name disappeared so that it appeared as Sith instead of Smith.
"Star Wars" was George Lucas' six movie series about inter-galactic battles between good and evil.
