Sluefoot Sue and Pecos Bill fell in love, but Widowmaker was jealous. On the day Bill and Sue were to marry, Widowmaker was supposed to carry Sue to Bill. Because of his jealousy, Widowmaker bucked Sue off and Sue's bustle kept her bouncing into the air.

When Bill tried to rope her and pull her down, Widowmaker kept the rope from reaching Sue. She continued bouncing until she disappeared onto the moon. The coyotes joined Bill as he howled at the full moon every night. After Bill died, the coyotes continued to howl at the full moon.

FYI, legend said that the clouds in the sky were apple blossoms planted by Johnny Appleseed in Heaven.
