DOWN was created in 1991. The members were reluctant to advertise who was in the band. They started trading their demo tape underground. Eventually, the demo was being traded back to them while gaining popularity. The rest, as they say, "is history."

Phil Anselmo is a highly regarded vocalist. He rose to fame in Pantera, but has always maintained side projects which include DOWN, Necrophagia, SJR, Arson Anthem and many others. DOWN was a side project for many years. In 2006 Anselmo announced that DOWN was now his main focus and fans began to hope to see many releases in the future.
