Answer: The Kinks

After years of addiction to alcohol and drugs, Eric has been clean and sober for several years and his music is better than ever. His work has transcended rock, blues, country and standards.
3. After his longtime lead guitarist Luther Perkins died, Johnny Cash used this rockabilly legend to take Luther's place. Who was he?

Answer: Carl Perkins

Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash were label mates on SUN Records at the beginning of their careers. Carl was also a distant cousin to Luther Perkins and was already a part of Johnny's show when he took over the lead guitar duties for Luther.
4. This blind bluegrass and folk legend was respectfully known as "Doc". Who was he?

Answer: Doc Watson

Doc Watson honed his fast flat-picking craft playing at square dances in his home state of North Carolina. Since the band he was with had no fiddle player Doc had to play all the tunes on the guitar.
5. Known as "Mr. Guitar" this country gentleman was also the top producer for RCA Records in Nashville for years. Who was he?

Answer: Chet Atkins

Chet was voted the Country Music Association's "Instrumentalist of the Year" nine times between 1967 and 1988. In addition to a large body of solo work, he recorded duet albums with Jerry Reed, Hank Snow, Merle Travis (who inspired Chet's finger style of playing) and Les Paul.

He also performed concerts with pianist Floyd Cramer and saxophonist Boots Randolph. These were billed as "Masters" concerts.
6. The Gibson Guitar Company named one of its models after this legendary guitarist. He was a pioneer in the art of overdubbing in the recording studio. Who was he?

Answer: Les Paul

Les Paul and his first wife Mary Ford had several hits in the 50s, including "The World Is Waiting for The Sunrise". Les not only overdubbed several guitar parts, he did so with Mary's voice as well.
7. In the movie "Woodstock", what song did Jimi Hendrix play?

Answer: The Star Spangled Banner

Jimi's rendition of the National Anthem was a culture shock to many who saw the movie as his use of feedback and harmonics gave the song a psychedelic edge.
8. Tommy Emmanuel is an amazing guitarist and entertainer with a unique style. What country is he from?

Answer: Australia

Born in 1955, Tommy's mother gave him his first guitar at age four. While she taught him just enough to accompany her as she played a lap steel guitar, he was inspired to master the instrument after listening to Chet Atkins.
9. Blues legend B.B. King gave his Gibson electric guitar a female name. What was it?

Answer: Lucille

Riley B. King was born in Mississippi in 1925. He named his guitar after a woman named Lucille who was the subject of a bar fight in an Arkansas club where BB was playing. The fight resulted in a fire and BB rushed back into the burning building to retrieve the guitar. He has since gone through several "Lucilles".
10. Chet Atkins made no secret of the fact that his style was inspired by a guitarist named Merle. What was Merle's last name?

Answer: Travis

"Travis-style" picking involves wearing a thumb pick and two finger picks. The thumb plays the bass strings while the fingers play the melody. Merle was also a very good country vocalist, with several hits in the 40s.
