Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From which REM album is the song "Everybody Hurts" taken?

Answer: Automatic for the People

"Automatic for the People" was released in Britain in 1992. "Everybody Hurts" was widely regarded as a classic by the British press. Michael Stipe's singing enables you to feel the pain of what he is singing."Automatic for the People" was the eighth studio album for REM and they saw it reach number one in the UK album charts. The album made number two in USA and Australia.
2. Keane's debut album which features the songs "Somewhere Only we Know" and "Everybody's Changing" is called "Hopes and Dreams".

Answer: False

The album is called "Hopes and Fears". Fame became too much for the lead singer Tom Chaplin soon after this album. He had to go into rehab for addiction to alcohol, but the band came back strongly in 2007, performing at many of the British festivals in 2008.

The band are only three members strong and comprise a singer, keyboard player and drummer; this does not affect their live performances.
3. "How to Save a Life" by The Fray is on the album "How to Save a Life".

Answer: True

"Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend,
somewhere along in the bitterness."
are the lyrics from the chorus of "How to Save a Life". This song influenced me to buy the album after I heard it on "Holby City", a British medical drama. The lyrics and tune are equally haunting in their effect.
4. "When you were Young" and "Bones" are taken from which Killers album?

Answer: Sam's Town

The Killers' lead singer is Brandon Flowers who is a great entertainer when he is on stage. The Killer's live shows in 2009 were all sold out in Britain. The Killers were formed in 2001 in Las Vegas and are classed as part of the post-punk revival.
5. "Radio Nowhere" by Bruce Springsteen is on the album "Magic".

Answer: True

"Magic" is an album by The Boss that features the single "Girls in their Summer Clothes". In 2009 Bruce Springsteen wowed the crowds at the Glastonbury festival with a two hour set. That was quite short for Springsteen who has been known to perform for at least four hours per concert.
6. Which band made the album "His and Hers"?

Answer: Pulp

Pulp were formed in Sheffield, England and were led by Jarvis Cocker who liked to tell stories of his early life. "His and Hers" had hit singles such as "Babies" and "Do you Remember the First Time" on it. Jarvis Cocker is best remembered for storming the stage when Michael Jackson was performing at the Brits in 1996.
7. Which album by Green Day features the hit single "Basket Case"?

Answer: Dookie

Green Day formed in 1987 in California and by 2009 they had had eight studio albums, including "Dookie" which was released in 1994. Green Day are not a band to put on the CD player when there are children present; some of their songs contain close to the knuckle lyrics.
8. "September" was an album "made" by U2.

Answer: False

The album was actually called "October" and was released in 1981, following their successful tour promoting the "Boy" album. U2 had been together 30 years in 2009 with all of the original members. Bono, the lead singer of U2, has met such dignitaries as Nelson Mandela, the Pope and at least two presidents of the USA.
9. The second album made by The Stone Roses was called _______________.

Answer: The Second Coming

An apt title for a second album that was eagerly anticipated after four years of waiting. According to most critics the hype did not match a very average album. This was the final album from the Stone Roses who split up soon after the release of this in 1994 in the UK and 1995 in the US.
10. What was the name of Elvis Presley's first album?

Answer: Elvis Presley

A simple one to finish about the King.
