Lynyrd Skynyrd toured with The Who on their U.S leg of the "Quadrophenia" tour. At the time, The Who was also signed with MCA. This tour helped establish Skynyrd's fan base into 1974.

My Backyard was the original name in 1964. They soon changed the name to the Nobel Five in 1965. In 1968, after seeing a Hell's Angel's jacket, they became One Percent.

Every Skynyrd fan should know that the name Lynyrd Skynyrd was from the gym teacher at their high school that hated boys with long hair; Leonard Skinner. That is what Gary Rossington named the band. That changed to Lynard Skynard and then finally to what we know today.

Robert E. Lee High school was on the west side of Jacksonville, Fl. Gary Rossington got tired about being chastised about his long hair, so he dropped out of school.

Answer: 1991

The band did reunite in 1987 as the Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band for the album "Southern By The Grace Of God" and a tour to support the album. They continued to tour until 1991 when Lynyrd Skynyrd could be officially used.

As part of the legal settlement with the widows of Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines, the name Lynyrd Skynyrd could not be used unless three of the members were part of the pre-crash band.

Bob Burns left the band in 1974 and passed away in 2015.

Allen Collins was involved in a car crash in 1986 that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He passed away in 1990.

Larry Justrom left the band in 1971 and joined .38 Special in 1977.
