Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Help me roll away the stone"

Answer: "The Crying Song"

"The Crying Song" is from the soundtrack to the film "More" which was released in 1969. The film was directed by Barbet Schroeder and dealt with heroin addiction and its tragic consequences. It was the first album the band recorded without the involvement of Syd Barrett.
2. "The memories of a man in his old age are the deeds of a man in his prime"

Answer: "Free Four"

"Free Four" is a track off the album "Obscured By Clouds" which was the soundtrack to the film "La Vallee" and the second and last album the band would record for a Barbet Schroeder film. It was the first song in which Roger Waters vocalized his feelings about the death of his father Eric Fletcher. "Obscured by Clouds" was the seventh studio album the band released and directly preceded "Dark Side of the Moon." "Free Four" was released as a single in the United States only.
3. "You stood in the doorway the ghost of a smile haunting your face like a cheap hotel sign"

Answer: "Your Possible Pasts"

"Your Possible Pasts" is from the album "The Final Cut." It was the last album by the band that Roger Waters would be involved with. The album's subtitle is called "Requiem For the Post War Dream" and deals with Waters' frustration with the death of his father in WWII and the outbreak of the Falkland Islands war which he likened to two bald men fighting over a comb.
4. "Basking in the sunshine of a bygone afternoon"

Answer: "Grantchester Meadows"

"Grantchester Meadows" was the first of two songs Roger Waters recorded for disc two of the album "Ummagumma," the other being "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict." The album's title is a Cambridge slang word for sexual intercourse. It was the band's first album to appear in the top 100 in the United States, peaking at number 74.
5. "Night comes down, you lock the door. The book falls to the floor"

Answer: "A Pillow of Winds"

"A Pillow of Winds" is track number two off of the band's 1971 album "Meddle." The title of the song was inspired by the game Mahjong. The album "Meddle" peaked at number three on the United Kingdom album chart, and its cover image is of a picture of an ear underwater.
6. "Who was trained not to spit in the fan"

Answer: "Dogs"

"Dogs" is the second track off of the album "Animals." It is the third longest standalone song ever recorded by the band, the first two being "Atom Heart Mother" from the 1970 album of the same name and "Echoes" from 1971's "Meddle."
The album "Animals" divides humanity into three subspecies: the cutthroat dogs who'll do anything to succeed but are eventually "dragged down by the stone," the obsequious and hypocritical pigs who are mere charades and the docile sheep who "harmlessly pass their time in the grassland away." In one interview, Roger Waters stated that he considers himself a dog.
7. "Nobody knows where you are"

Answer: "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX)"

All of the answers are from the band's 1975 album "Wish You Were Here." A famous incident occurred during the recording of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" in which a fat, bald, initially unrecognizable man who turned out to be Syd Barrett came into the studio, started jumping up and down while brushing his teeth and asked when he was to put his guitar on.

In an interview, Roger Waters stated that during the recording sessions "most of us didn't wish we were there at all."
8. "I have seen the writing on the wall"

Answer: "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 3"

"Another Brick In the Wall Part 3" is the penultimate track on the first disc of "The Wall." In the film it begins when the rock star Pink smashes his television with his electric guitar. It is the song in which the metaphorical wall is finally completed and Pink has become totally detached and isolated from reality.
9. "He wore a scarlet tunic"

Answer: "The Gnome"

"The Gnome" is a song from Pink Floyd's debut album "The Piper At the Gates of Dawn." It was the only album on which Syd Barrett played a vital role in composition as the following album, "A Saucerful of Secrets," would see David Gilmour replace the faltering front man as lead guitarist. "The Gnome," like much of the album's songs, dealt with fairy tale and fantasy imagery in its lyrics.

In fact, "The Piper At the Gates of Dawn" is the title of a chapter in the children's book "The Wind In the Willows" by Kenneth Grahame.
10. "I would like to know, 'How do you feel?'"

Answer: "Summer '68"

"Summer '68" is the third track off 1970's "Atom Heart Mother." It was the only song off the album never to be performed live. The title "Atom Heart Mother" came from the headline of an article in the London Evening Standard newspaper about a woman being fitted with an atomic pacemaker. Stanley Kubrick wanted to use the "Atom Heart Mother Suite" in the film "A Clockwork Orange" but was refused. Both Roger Waters and David Gilmour have a negative opinion of the album.
