Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who sang this in 1970: "Tall white mansions and..little shacks."?

Answer: Neil Young

This is a line from "Southern Man" from Neil Young's 1970 album "After the Goldrush". Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd's lead singer/songwriter Ronnie Van Zant apparently took offense to this song and responded angrily in the song "Sweet Home Alabama". This was not a raging conflict however, as Young and Van Zant were later on friendly terms.
2. What 1968 song does this line come from: "Across the streams of hopes and dreams where things are really not."?

Answer: Journey to the Center of the Mind

Anti-drug rocker Ted Nugent was a member of the Amboy Dukes when they recorded this song and claims that he was naive enough at the time to not understand that it was a song about "tripping" on LSD.
3. What band gave us these lines in 1966: "My girlfriend's run off with my car, gone back to her Ma and Pa. Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty."?

Answer: The Kinks

This is a funny song from the Kinks' 1966 album "Face to Face".
4. Which 1969 Beatles song does this come from: "One sweet dream--pick up the bags, get in the limousine."?

Answer: You Never Give Me Your Money

In my opinion this song was Paul McCartney's greatest contribution to a Beatles record. It is the first of the songs that all run together on side 2 of the "Abbey Road" album from 1969.
5. Which song from Pink Floyd's 1979 album "The Wall" do these lines come from: "I've got some bad news for you, Sunshine, Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel."?

Answer: In the Flesh

This is a bone-chilling song from one of the greatest albums ever made. "The Wall" was made into a movie in 1982.
6. Which of these bands sang this in 1972: "It's the root of evil and you know the rest, but it's way ahead of what's second best."?

Answer: ZZ Top

This is a line from the song "Just Got Paid" from ZZ Top's 1972 album, "Rio Grande Mud".
7. What 1971 song do these lines come from: "Eyes that shine, burnin' red. Dreams of you all through my head."?

Answer: Black Dog

This is a line from "Black Dog", the opening song from Led Zeppelin's untitled 1971 masterpiece.
8. Whose lines are these, from 1969: "Can't help it 'bout the shape I'm in, I can't sing, I ain't pretty, and my legs are thin. Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to."

Answer: Fleetwood Mac

This one is called "Oh Well". It's a great song from Fleetwood Mac's 1969 release, "Then Play On". Fleetwood Mac's line-up at the time was very different from the popular late 70s line-up. The band was led in the 60s by a fantastic guitarist named Peter Green. Singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and singers Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie were not yet a part of the band. Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has named Green as one of his favorite all-time guitarists and based the riff from the song "Black Dog" on the riff from this song.
9. Who sang these angry lyrics in 1971: "The only thing you done was yesterday, and since you've gone you're just another day."?

Answer: John Lennon

This song is called "How Do You Sleep" and can be found on Lennon's 1971 album "Imagine". There are many different opinions floating about as to the exact meaning of this song, but everyone would agree that it's a medium for Lennon's intense anger toward Paul McCartney. George Harrison plays lead guitar on the track.
10. Which rock legend sang this lyric in 1967: "The traffic lights, they turn blue tomorrow."?

Answer: Jimi Hendrix

This is a line from "The Wind Cries Mary", off of Hendrix's 1967 album "Are You Experienced". He supposedly wrote this song for his girlfriend Kathy after yelling at her for cooking their dinner with dirty pots and pans.
