Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and likewise bad song lyrics are in the ear of the listener. These lyrics are some of the dumbest I've heard. I bet you will agree.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Paul Anka sings: " You're_____________________ ." What a lovely way of sayin' how much you love me. You're___________________. What a lovely way of sayin' what you're thinkin' of me I can see it, face is glowin'. I can see in your eyes, I'm happy you know it. What phrase goes in the blanks?

Answer: having my baby

Paul Anka recorded "(You're) Having My Baby" in 1974 with Odia Coates. It reached number one on the billboard charts in spite of (or because of?) its lyrics which include these priceless lines:

"Didn't have to keep it
Wouldn't put ya through it
You could have swept it from your life
But you wouldn't do it, no, you wouldn't do it
And you're havin' my baby"

Wow.
2. "Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh, nooooo" What is the name of this tragic tale of wet cake?

Answer: MacArthur Park

The song was written by Jimmy Webb. It was a hit for Richard Harris in 1968 and again for Donna Summer in 1978. I still don't know what the heck it means!
3. "Seven a.m., waking up in the morning Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal Seein' everything, the time is goin' Tickin' on and on, everybody's rushin' Gotta get down to the bus stop Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (My friends) Kickin' in the front seat Sittin' in the back seat Gotta make my mind up which seat can I take?" Can you name that tune?

Answer: Friday

Rebecca Black mysteriously had a hit with this song,

"Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
Today i-is Friday, Friday (Partyin')
We-we-we so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a ball today

Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after ... wards
I don't want this weekend to end"

It was nearly universally panned when the song and music video were released in 2011.
4. Who sang a song containing this chorus: "Who let the dogs out? Who, who, who, who, who? Who let the dogs out? Who, who, who, who, who? Who let the dogs out? Who, who, who, who, who? Who let the dogs out?"

Answer: The Baha Men

I must admit the song is quite catchy. It has been used at football and baseball games, and was featured in at least six movies and numerous television shows. However, not everyone is a fan. In 2007, "Rolling Stone Magazine" ranked it third in its list of the most annoying songs, and in 2008 "Spinner" rated it the worst song ever.

But it still sticks in your mind! Who, who, who, who who!
5. The Cheeky Girls had some success with what cheeky tune?

Answer: Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)

Yes, they did have some success with a song called "Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum.)" It peaked at number two on the UK singles chart in 2002. It failed to enter the charts in the U.S. or Canada. The Cheeky Girls were contestants on Britain's reality talent show "Popstars: The Rivals."

"We are the cheeky girls
We are the cheeky girls
You are the cheeky boys
You are the cheeky boys
We are the cheeky girls
We are the cheeky girls
You are the cheeky boys
You are the cheeky boys

Hhmm cheeky cheeky."
6. The Black Eyed Peas sang: "You don't want no drama No, no drama, no no no no drama So don't pull on my hand boy You ain't my man, boy I'm just tryin a dance boy And move ____________" Can you finish the lyric? (Its also the title of the song.)

Answer: my hump

The song, which was released in 2005, was controversial. Many critics panned the song and the video for its repetitive and salacious lyrics. However, it made it into the top five of the "Billboard Top 100" and the video won Best Hip-Hop Video at the MTV Video Music Awards. It has also been parodied more than a few times....
7. What is the title of the Trace Adkins song that includes these lyrics: "There outta be a law Get the Sheriff on the phone Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on With that honky tonk badonkadonk (Ooh, that's what I'm talkin' bout right there, honey)"

Answer: Honky Tonk Badonkadonk

Maybe the title should be "There Outta Be a Law," but it is actually "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk." Mysteriously (to me at least) the song proved to be a crossover hit, charting on both the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart, the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and the U.S. Pop 100 charts. I must say it is fun to say "badonkadonk."
8. "Are we human or are we _________? My sign is vital My hands are cold" Can you complete this strange and grammatically incorrect line?

Answer: dancer

Fans and critics have been confused over the lyric, thinking The Killers may have been singing dancers, or denser (which would at least be grammatically correct.)
The band's website confirms the word is actually dancer. Apparently, the band is irritated by the objections to the ungrammatical lyric.
9. Here is a song that I actually like, and for the most part I think the lyrics are very nice. However, one line puts this song in this quiz. Sade sings: "He's a smooth operator Smooth operator, smooth operator Smooth operator Coast to coast, LA to __________" Can you complete this line, from Sade?

Answer: Chicago

Yes, the geographically-challenged lyric is "Coast to coast, LA to Chicago." Chicago, the windy city, is a great place, but it's not on a "coast." Chicago is actually in the mid-west. If you are going "coast to coast" from LA, Chicago is about halfway. Oops!
10. "I'm too sexy for my hat." Who thinks they are too sexy?

Answer: Right Said Fred

This song evoked strong, though schizophrenic, reactions. It ranked number 49 on "The 50 Worst Songs Ever! Watch, Listen and Cringe!" by Blender. It ranked number 80 on the VH1's "100 Greatest Songs of the 90s." It was number two on VH1's "40 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 90s." In 2010 AOL Radio ranked it number eight in its list "100 Worst Songs Ever." Maybe it was just too sexy for these lists!
