Author's Note: Here's a hint to which Go-Go had written the lyrics to a song. Jane, Charlotte and Kathy wrote 80% of the lyrics for The Go-Go's. If a question asks which Go-Go wrote a "deep track" on an album, only one of these songwriters will be in the choices. However, if a question asks which Go-Go wrote the lyrics to a signature song for The Go-Go's, all three songwriters may be in the choices.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Go-Go solely wrote the lyrics to the song "Capture the Light" on the album "Talk Show"?

Answer: Jane Wiedlin

Jane solely wrote "Capture the Light." Of the eleven songs on the album and its three singles, Jane has solely written two and co-written five; therefore, Jane contributed the most by composing 38% of the lyrics on the album.

According to Wiedlin's documentary-interview in "The Go-Go's" (2020), "I was really writing a lot because Charlotte was in a lot of trouble with the drugs. There are people that really loved that album, but I can't even listen to it because, to me, I was so miserable during that time, oh, my God" (Ellwood, 2020).
2. Which Go-Go co-wrote the lyrics to the song "Our Lips Are Sealed" on the album "Beauty and the Beat"?

Answer: Jane Wiedlin

Jane and the lead singer of The Specials, Terry Hall, co-wrote "Our Lips Are Sealed." Hall's later band, Fun Boy Three, recorded a version on their album "Waiting" in 1983 and according to Wiedlin's interview with Songfacts, "They did a really great version of it, also. It was a lot gloomier than The Go-Go's version" (Wiser, 2007).
3. A member of The Bangles is credited for lyrics on an album by The Go-Go's.

Answer: True

It's true! The lead singer of The Bangles, Susanna Hoffs, is credited with Charlotte and Jane for the lyrics of "Talking Myself Down" on the album "God Bless the Go-Go's." A new supergroup? The GoBangs...The BanGo's...The Go-Go-Gles?
4. The Go-Go's released the song "Cool Jerk" as a single to promote their compilation album "Greatest." Which song was on the B-side of this single? FunClue: To promote your greatest hits, you can't beat exploiting your greatest hit.

Answer: We Got the Beat

The Go-Go's re-released "Cool Jerk" backed with "We Got the Beat" as a single. To promote your greatest hits, relaunch your greatest hit. "We Got the Beat" had ranked on eight music charts: #2 US Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks, #3 Canada Top Singles RPM, #7 US Billboard Mainstream Rock, #25 US Billboard Top Pop Singles Year-End, #29 Australia Kent Music Report, #32 Canada RPM 100 Year-End, #35 US Billboard Dance Club Songs, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 500 Songs to Shape Rock & Roll, certified RIAA Gold and certified MC Gold.
5. The Go-Go's were actually waterskiing on the cover of their album "Vacation."

Answer: False

According to photographer Mick Haggerty's interview with RockPoP Gallery, "I knew I had to strip the band's heads onto the bodies of the girls [Cypress Gardens water-skiers] I shot in Florida" (Goldstein, 2007).

According to Wiedlin's interview with Songfacts about their first big-budget music-video, "I remember it being a really long day, like a 14-hour day and about eight hours into it, we all were getting really bored and restless, so we started drinking. By the time they shot the scene where we're on the water skis, skiing one-handed and waving and stuff...if you look at us, look in our eyes...we're all like cross-eyed drunk" (Wiser, 2007).
6. Which album by The Go-Go's was the first to contain live recordings of their songs?

Answer: Return to the Valley of The Go-Go's

The two-disc compilation album "Return to the Valley of The Go-Go's" contains 16 live recordings either at home; the Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco; the Hakano Plaza, Tokyo; Palos Verdes High School or the Greek Theatre, Los Angeles. Seven of the recordings were before The Go-Go's had their first record deal. The one-disc version contains seven of the live recordings.
7. Regarding The Go-Go's song title on their album "Talk Show," Jane Wiedlin wants a "Yes or No" to which request?

Answer: Dance

Lyric: "Either dance or tell me no." Jane is not asking for a romance, commitment or promise but just a dance or two. If being a good dance team would be too complicated for you, fine, tell me and "then I'll be gone."

If The Go-Go's can't dance with you, then they'll write about dancing with you because they have written the word "dance" 21 times in the lyrics of their songs. Eight of their 59 songs (14%) have the word "dance" and most prominently in "The Way You Dance" at 12 times, both songs "Yes or No" and "We Got the Beat" use it twice and five songs have it once.

The Go-Go's also mention four specific dances in three of their songs: "Beatnik Beach" has the Limbo; "Fashion Seekers" includes the Hustle and "We Got the Beat" contains the Pony and Watusi.
8. Regarding The Go-Go's song title on their album "Return to the Valley of The Go-Go's," where is "Living at the Canterbury"?

Answer: Apartment building

According to Carlisle and Wiedlin's interviews with The Howard Stern Show and The A.V. Club, "It's an apartment building in Hollywood where all the punks lived" (Stern, 1994) "completely filled up with punk rockers. It was like, one of us got in, and all of us moved in. And the other people living in the building with us were people on SSI [Supplemental Security Income]" (Adams, 2011).
9. The Go-Go's released their hit song "Get Up and Go" on which album?

Answer: Vacation

The Go-Go's released "Get Up and Go" on the album "Vacation" in 1982 and this single had ranked number 46 on US Billboard Mainstream Rock and number 50 on US Billboard Hot 100.

The word "go" is so nice, The Go-Go's named themselves twice and then used it another 93 times in the lyrics of their songs. Twenty-nine of their 59 songs (49%) have the word "go" and most prominently, obviously, is "Get Up and Go" at 24 times, "Stuck In My Car" at eight times and the songs "How Much More," "Head Over Heels" and "Blades" at six times. One song has the word "go" four times, five songs at three times, six songs use it twice and 12 songs once.
10. Which song by The Go-Go's confronts the distorted societal-perception for girls to be "zero size," "clothes-hanger lollipops," "microthin" and "x-ray"?

Answer: Throw Me a Curve

The song "Throw Me a Curve" from the album "God Bless the Go-Go's" rails against this social pressure. "Wishing there was less of you?...Are you really sure...How much less is more...Girls are shapely by design...Exactly what you've got...Is so easy to adore."
