Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Shine", an independant EP release, came out in what year?

Answer: 2002

"Shine" was a 2002 EP release despite the 2001 copyright. It was an independent release that charted at the over all #2 position in the same year. This was the first time Cyndi ever released any media without the assistance of a major label.
2. Which one is NOT the title of a Cyndi Lauper album?

Answer: All Through the Night

"All Through the Night" (1984) was the title of a single on the "She's So Unusual" (1983) album, not the title of an album itself. It was released as a single without a video to prove that her voice could surpass her image in the early days of MTV. "A Night to Remember" (1989) and "Hat Full of Stars" (1993) were both follow up LP releases and never charted as high as "She's So Unusual" (6x platinum).
3. Fill in the blank for the title of this song. "Hole In My _________ (All The Way To China)"

Answer: Heart

This was from the movie soundtrack "Vibes". Cyndi recorded the song in addition to playing the female lead. The song played during the ending credits of her very first movie roll. The movie came out in the summer of 1988.
4. "Twelve Deadly Cyns... _____ _____ _____"

Answer: and Then Some

This is a must have! It is a compilation CD of greatest hits. It was released in the US in 1995. It included songs from the first decade of her solo career.
5. Cyndi's solo debut album was almost entitled what?

Answer: She's So Wonderful

One of the big wigs at Portrait Records exclaimed that Cyndi was "so wonderful" when he heard a demo tape of one of her tracks. Her manager at the time (David Wolff) retorted, "she's so unusual". They tossed the two around as ideas for the title of her first album. The rest is history...

Even though 1984 was a landmark year for Cyndi (this was the year she had four top 5 singles), the album in question, "She's So Unusual" was released in 1983.
6. "I could fly back to when we were _____". This is from the song "Change of Heart" (1986).

Answer: younger

This song was from the "True Colors" (1986) LP. It was the second single released in that same year and hit #3 in the US top 10. Bonus trivia! Special guest vocalists for "Change of Heart", The Bangles.
7. True or false? Cyndi appeared in the movie "The Goonies" (1985) with a speaking part.

Answer: False

While our beloved Cyn did appear in the movie, she had no speaking parts. She did however sing a few lines to "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" (the theme song released in the same year) while the Goonie gang watched and listened to her on the T.V. She appeared nowhere else in this movie.
8. The album entitled "A Night to Remember" (1989) had only two US singles. Which one was the first?

Answer: I Drove All Night

"I Drove All Night" (a top 10 single in the US) was the first US single from this album; it was originally written for Roy Orbison, but he didn't record it until after Cyndi. "My First Night Without You" was the second single. "Heading West" and "A Night to Remember" were also singles internationally from the above mentioned LP, but not in the US. All were released in 1989.
9. Choose a phrase that best describes Cyndi's hair in the 1984 "Time after Time" music video.

Answer: A checker board pattern

That wild Cyndi! This is a memorable moment for many people of the early MTV era. The music video depicted a girl who outgrew her small town roots and moved on to the big city. Bonus trivia: the old black and white movie Cyndi watched in the intro to the video was entitled "The Garden of Allah" (1936). This movie depicted the same type of theme.
10. In the mid 90's, Cyndi remade one of her classics. The video featured many drag queens. What was the original song that inspired the remake?

Answer: Girls Just Want To Have Fun

"Hey Now (Girls Just Want To Have Fun)" (1994) was the remake of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" (1983). It is said that Cyndi was tired of singing the same song and wanted to recreate it and give it new life.
11. True or False? The name of Cyndi's original band was "Earth Angel".

Answer: False

The name of Cyndi's original band in 1980 was "Blue Angel". They performed many reto-1950's type songs. According to Cyndi, the one and only LP they recorded, "Blue Angel", went lead (as opposed to gold). It is great that she has a sense of humor about it never reaching anywhere on the charts!
12. "We start to fight and cant get over what was said, 'cause you see black and white and I see _____". Hint, from the song "Who Let in the Rain" (1993).

Answer: red

This was the first single from the album entitled "Hat Full of Stars" (1993). It was less than successful despite critical acclaim in the US.It was a minor hit internationally.
13. This song is about a guy who transforms into a drag queen on a nightly basis. Hint, it is from the "Sisters of Avalon" (1997) LP.

Answer: Ballad Of Cleo And Joe

She sure loves her drag queens, eh? This is a song that was co-written with Jan Pulsford and sung by Cyndi as a tribute to the many drag queens in New York who imitated her through out the years (imitation is the highest form of flattery, right?).
14. A famous singer recorded "The World is Stone" before Cyndi got her hands on it. This song was originally recorded in French (hint). Who was this singer?

Answer: Celine Dion

Celine Dion sang this song in French, entitled "Le Monde est Stone" (1991) before Cyndi recorded the english version in 1992. Cyndi's version was never released as a single in the US. It charted high in France where it climbed to number 2, staying three months in the top 5. Who says that the french don't like Americans?
15. True or False? Cyndi won an Emmy for a 1995 appearence in an episode of "Mad About You".

Answer: True

Yes it is true! Our Cyn won for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series for her second appearance in the "Mad About You" sitcom at the 1995 Emmy awards. She played the recurring role of Marianne Lugasso. It seems there isn't anything Cyndi hasn't done. Our beloved Cyn is a true American rags to riches story. In the end, and in her own words, she "still just wants to have fun"!
