Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "White Winter Hymnal" is the first single released off the debut album of which American indie folk band?

Answer: Fleet Foxes

Hailing from Seattle, Fleet Foxes have a unique indie folk sound, influence by folk music from the '60s and '70s. The band started their career with a self-titled EP in 2006, followed by "Sun Giant" in 2008 and their first full album, again titled "Fleet Foxes", in the same year. "White Winter Hymnal" was the first single that was released from this album.
2. Coldplay's "White Shadows" was the final single released from which album?

Answer: X&Y

With their previous album achieving universal acclaim, Coldplay stepped up their game and came storming back in 2005 with their third studio album, "X&Y". Six singles were released from the album, with "White Shadows" being the last. While not as popular as previous singles "Speed of Sound" and "Fix You", the song received good reviews from critics.
3. "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" was a hit for which American punk rock band in 1998?

Answer: The Offspring

The Offspring released their fifth album "Americana" in 1998, and the first single lifted off that album was "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)". It was a massive success, reaching the number 1 spot on many international music charts, including the Australian, Irish, Japanese, and UK Singles Charts.
4. In 2010, Jamiroquai released "White Knuckle Ride" as the first single off their seventh studio album. What is this album?

Answer: Rock Dust Light Star

For many fans of Jamiroquai (like myself), the five year wait between their last studio album, "Dynamite", and "Rock Dust Light Star" was almost unbearable. But finally, in late 2010, the British jazz/funk band released their seventh album, and "White Knuckle Ride" was the first single to be released from it.

The video was uploaded to the band's YouTube channel in late December, well before the November release date of the album.
5. "White as Snow" was a 2009 song recorded by which Irish group?

Answer: U2

U2's 2009 album "No Line on the Horizon" is marked as being the only 'political' song on the album. Based on an old hymn, the song is sung from the perspective of a soldier dying in Afghanistan.
6. British pop singer Dido had a hit in 2003 with what song?

Answer: White Flag

Regarded as Dido's best song, "White Flag" reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 1 on several others, including in Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy and Norway. The song also won Dido the award of Best British Single at the Brit Awards in 2004.
7. "Black or White" was a massive hit for Michael Jackson in 1991. From which album did this song come?

Answer: Dangerous

One of Michael Jackson's most popular songs, "Black or White" is seen as Jackson's response to comments about race and xenophobia. It was a huge success, reaching the number 1 spot on a large number of major singles charts around the world. It also went platinum in the US and New Zealand, and twice platinum in Australia.
8. "White Wedding" was a track featured on the eponymous debut album by which artist?

Answer: Billy Idol

"White Wedding" is regarded as Billy Idol's most successful song, despite it charting lower than other songs of his. Released in 1982, the song has been covered by many artists, and has also featured in several television shows and video games.
9. "White Queen (As It Began)", featured on Queen's 1974 album "Queen II", was on Side Black of the album.

Answer: False

Naturally, "White Queen (As It Began)" was on Side White of "Queen II". The song was written by guitarist Brian May, as is described as having "contrasting acoustic and heavy metal sections". On Side Black of the album, the song "The March of the Black Queen" is featured, penned by frontman Freddie Mercury.
10. "White Christmas", written by Irving Berlin, was made world famous by which American singer?

Answer: Bing Crosby

Written by Irving Berlin, "White Christmas" is one of the most popular festive songs, having been recorded by many artists over the years since its creation in the 1940s. Despite the fact that other famous names have sung the song, including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Dean Martin, Bing Crosby's version has remained the most popular.

The Guinness Book of Records names the song as the biggest-selling single of all time, with copies in excess of 50 million sold.
