Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "It's obvious, so come to your senses."

Answer: In Came the Flood

The higher-charting of the two singles from Wintersleep's "Hello Hum" album, "In Came the Flood" pushed to number seven on the Canadian Alternative chart, the highest ranking to date for the band. It also helped the band reach number twenty on the Canadian Albums chart for this, their fifth album, in 2012.

The track and the album were co-produced by Dave Fridmann, who joined the band at a time when indie music was continuing a tear into the 2010s. Fridmann was also known for collaborating with The Flaming Lips, Interpol, OK Go, MGMT, and Tame Impala around the same time.
2. "You forgot your love today."

Answer: Nothing Is Anything (Without You)

The band's best-received track from their fifth album, "Hello Hum", "Nothing Is Anything (Without You)" proved to be the lasting song from the album, taking the majority of online plays for the band in this era (even over their lead single, "In Came the Flood").

The song would only hit number thirty-one on the Canadian Alternative chart. The music video for the song, directed by Christopher Mills, featured what appeared to be a restored home movie featuring a floating Discman.
3. "I will love you for all time."

Answer: Forest Fire

Although "In the Land Of", Wintersleep's seventh album, didn't hit the charts with a significant showing, the band continued to release singles in support of the record. While the wistful indie track "In the Shape of Your Heart" did quite well online, it was "Forest Fire" that excelled beyond the others, bringing a Coldplay-esque piano presence and a wistful melody to the forefront.

The music video, a lushly-animated Canadian effort, only added to the magic of the song.
4. "If the worst is true, is it just a waste of time?"

Answer: Amerika

A massive hit for Wintersleep in Canada, "Amerika" barely predated the 2016 U.S. election, presenting a hard-hitting track lamenting the anxieties of the future of America. The music video, starting with a clip of Donald Trump before his election win, was a notable moment that helped secure significant online play across the continent; Wintersleep would perform the song on U.S. late night shows with the attention garnered from the video. "Amerika" topped the Canadian Alternative and Canadian Rock charts in 2016, becoming the first single from their sixth album, "The Great Detachment".
5. "Our existence has serious side effects."

Answer: Dead Letter & The Infinite Yes

While only "Weighty Ghost" and "Oblivion" were selected to be radio singles from Wintersleep's "Welcome to the Night Sky" album, "Dead Letter & The Infinite Yes" is probably one of their more lasting deep cuts, recurring on concert setlists for the band well into subsequent decades and taking in more online plays than other tracks from the record. Like "Weighty Ghost", the song also appeared on the soundtrack for "Being Human's" first season (the North American version, that is).
6. "Are you gonna be alright?"

Answer: Spirit

The second single from Wintersleep's sixth album, "The Great Detachment", "Spirit" became a quick concert favourite due to its upbeat chorus and periodically harmonized verses. Riding off the success of "Amerika", this track made it to number five on the Canadian Rock chart and found modest success online.

The director of the music video, Michael LeBlanc, also worked on tracks by Spoon, Emily Haines (of Metric), Arkells, and Billy Talent.
7. "Drive to work all day, go to sleep at night."

Answer: Beneficiary

The first single from Wintersleep's seventh album, "In the Land Of" (released in 2019), "Beneficiary" kicked off what was a strong album, but a poorly-faring one on the charts. While the song hit number forty-four on the Canadian Rock chart, the album itself failed to chart altogether. Nonetheless, "Beneficiary" is a sing-along track and a good point of entry for listeners taking their first listen to the band heading into their third decade of music-making.
8. "Wouldn't even tell me his own name."

Answer: Weighty Ghost

Perhaps the band's most recognizable song, "Weighty Ghost" was used on a number of TV show soundtracks in the U.S. and Canada after its 2007 release (ending up being the title track for the Canadian program "Cracked"). The single was the first to chart for the band in Canada, marking their first entry on the Canadian Hot 100 and one of their higher showings on the Canadian Rock Chart (where it hit number nine).

The first single from their "Welcome to the Night Sky" release, it helped the band win the Juno Award for New Group of the Year despite the fact that it was their third full-length album (after their eponymous debut in 2001 and their untitled 2005 disc).
9. "I was part of it. I was enlisted."

Answer: Freak Out

The third and final single from "The Great Detachment", "Freak Out" was a high-tempo offering that continued the band's streak of energetic concert tracks. The song failed to make much of an impact on the charts, only hitting number forty-five on the Canadian Rock chart. Online, the same trend resulted with songs like "More Than" and "Santa Fe", both from the same album, gaining more traction.
10. "A sentimental wind; you are not permanent."

Answer: New Inheritors

Though "Welcome to the Night Sky" helped Wintersleep take off as a Canadian indie mainstay, their subsequent album, "New Inheritors", was a bit more of a sleeper release. Refining their sound, the album bounced between more mature tracks that made use of new instrumentation and heavier tracks better designed for concert play.

The title track was the second of four singles from the album and the only one not to chart. "Black Camera", the first from the record, peaked at number seven on the Canadian Alternative chart while the album took number twelve on the Canadian Albums Chart in 2010.
