Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Adolph Marx (1888-1964) changed his first name in 1911 to Arthur. Arthur Marx is better known as which of the Marx Brothers? (Hint: when you see the answer, his real name and stage name makes sense)

Answer: Harpo

Harpo Marx was named Adolph Marx at birth and changed it age 23 to Arthur Marx since he disliked his given name. His older brother Leonard Joseph Marx was known as Chico. The third oldest brother Julius Henry Marx is the most well-known, Groucho. Two younger brothers Milton Marx (Gummo) and Herbert Manfred Marx (Zeppo) played lesser roles in the Marx Brothers.

Arthur/Harpo was an excellent musician, who played about six different instruments and was a dedicated harpist. He was self-taught on the harp and developed an unorthodox style that fascinated professional harpists. His love of the harp and the relatively close sound of Art and Harpo makes sense of the nickname he used.

In the Marx Brothers' movies Harpo didn't speak, using a horn or whistling to communicate. He was noted for his use of props, especially in sight gags, and for his curly wig. In 1933 during a tour of Russia Harpo acted as a secret courier, delivering messages to and from the US Ambassador William Bullitt.
