1. Who was the Royal Consort of King James I?

Answer: Anne of Denmark

James married Anne of Denmark while he was still James VI of Scotland. Anne gave her husband three children who survived childhood.
2. Who was the Royal Consort of King Charles I?

Answer: Henrietta of France

Charles I's wife, Henrietta of France, was an ardent Catholic who instilled these values in her younger son James, Duke of York.

Answer: Catherine of Braganza

Catherine of Braganza suffered many mis-carriages and had no children. It was often put to the king that he cast his wife aside and take another consort but he would have none of it.
4. Who was the *first* consort of King James II?

Answer: Anne Hyde

The marriage took place in 1660 and in 1662 Anne Hyde gave birth to the future Marry II and in 1665 to the future Queen Anne. She died (probably of breast cancer) in 1671. Two years later, James II married again, this time to Mary of Modena, who in 1688 gave birth to a son, James (the Old Pretender). This birth set in train events that led to the Glorious Revolution of 1688.
5. William III and Mary II were joint sovereigns until Mary's death.

Queen Mary II married her first cousin William of Orange who became William III of England. William and Mary were joint rulers (till Mary II's death in 1694), but Mary was in practice the junior partner from a political point of view. On her death William III became the sole sovereign.

He who succeeded in 1702 by Anne. Of her 17 pregnancies resulted in one healthy child, William, Duke of Gloucester, who died when he was eleven. After Queen Anne's death the crown passed to her cousin George of Hanover.
