In baseball, the Blue Jays and Marlins were both first-time champs. The NBA's Bulls, Rockets and Spurs all won their first titles during this stretch. In football, only the Broncos were first-time champs. The Penguins, Devils, Avalanche and Stars all hoisted Lord Stanley's Cup for the first time. Colorado, Washington, Florida State, Florida and Tennessee all won their first NCAA football titles. And, of course, the Comets didn't even exist before winning their first title in 1997.
