Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the flashback sequence at the beginning of the "Hero" episode, Jimmy's acquaintance asked him what his name was. What did Jimmy tell him?

Answer: Saul

The flashback sequence took place in the "Slippin' Jimmy" days in Cicero, Illinois. Jimmy and his acquaintance were prowling the quiet streets one evening, looking for some fun. When he asked what Jimmy's name was, Jimmy told him it was "Saul. S'all good, man". The seed was planted.
2. It turned out that finding the wallet in the flashback sequence at the beginning of the "Hero" episode was part of a scam that Jimmy and the wallet's owner were running. What item was used to scam their target?

Answer: A Rolex watch

The wallet's owner at first appeared to be dead, so Jimmy poked him with a stick. The man awoke; he appeared to be drunk and was humming "Smoke on the Water". After he fell back asleep, the acquaintance took the money from the wallet, and Jimmy went for the watch, but the acquaintance decided he wanted the watch because he thought it was a Rolex.

He gave Jimmy the wallet and an additional $580 bucks and told him they were even. Then he took off, yelling "Later, sucker!", thinking that he had scammed Jimmy, but it turned out to be the other way around.

The victim stood up and slapped hands with Jimmy. Later Jimmy said they had six more watches to use.
3. The Kettlemans offered Jimmy a bribe to keep quiet about the money in the "Hero" episode. Jimmy said that he couldn't take a bribe but that he could accept it as a retainer for legal services. Why did Betsy Kettleman tell him that they couldn't hire him as a lawyer?

Answer: He was the kind of lawyer that guilty people hire.

Jimmy told the Kettlemans that the money was a bargaining chip that they could use in their case, but they explained that the money belonged to them because Craig had earned it for overtime at his job, and they weren't going to turn it in. When they offered him the bribe, Jimmy suggested they hire him; he admitted that he wasn't part of a big law firm, comparing himself to a "kiddie lemonade stand trying to compete with Walmart", but he said he would be devoted to their cause.

They turned him down, and Jimmy appeared to be stung by Betsy's comment.

It turned out that he accepted the money and he decided to use it to build himself a new image: "On this rock I will build my church."
4. With the Kettlemans located, the charges against Nacho were dropped in the "Hero" episode. What did Nacho accuse Jimmy of doing?

Answer: Warning the Kettlemans about his plan to go after their money.

Jimmy thought that they were even now that he had managed to get Nacho freed, but Nacho told Jimmy that he didn't believe that the Kettlemans just decided to go camping. He thought that Jimmy had warned them and told him that "there would be consequences" for ruining his plans and getting him arrested.

He claimed that Jimmy caused him a lot of trouble, but Jimmy pointed out that Nacho had caused his own problems by being seen sitting outside of the Kettleman house and by having blood stains in his van.
5. When Jimmy was getting fitted for his "Howard Hamlin" suit during the "Hero" episode, what clothing items did he examine that would become a signature of his future persona?

Answer: A loud shirt and tie

Jimmy was ordering a duplicate of Howard Hamlin's standard look: a navy blue pinstripe single breasted suit of Tasmanian wool and a shirt of Sea Island cotton. When the salesman went to get his shirt, Jimmy walked around the store and spotted a gaudy orange shirt.

He initially chuckled at it but then appeared to change his mind. He found a garish red striped tie to match to it and appeared pleased with the combination. If you've seen "Breaking Bad", you're familiar with those loud colors; if not, well they were the only items Jimmy picked up in the store.
6. In the "Hero" episode, Howard Hamlin asked Kim to take a drive with him. What did he take her to see?

Answer: Jimmy's billboard

Howard pointed out that Jimmy was wearing a copy of his suit and that the logo was the same as Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill's: "He's just straight out copying us". Jimmy had even had the ladies at the salon fix his hair to resemble Howard's. Kim later visited Jimmy after hours at the salon and handed him a cease and desist notice and asked him why he was spending so much money trying to make himself into a Hamlin clone.

She told him the billboard was "a declaration of war", to which Jimmy said that Hamlin "fired the first shot" by telling Jimmy not to use his own name for his firm.

By the way, the phone number on the billboard was real; if you called it, you'd get Jimmy McGill's answering machine message.
7. After a judge ruled against Jimmy for infringing on the Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill logo in the "Hero" episode, Jimmy made numerous telephone calls during a montage segment in the courthouse. Who was he trying to contact?

Answer: News agencies/journalists

Jimmy was trying to sell the "David versus Goliath story", but as the judge had told him, he was clearly guilty of trademark infringement, so none of the news agencies or journalists he contacted wanted to cover his story. Jimmy had argued that he hadn't copied the logo; there were only so many fonts available, and they had just happened to use the same font. Howard Hamlin pointed out that it just wasn't the font, it was also the color, which he called Hamlindigo blue.

The judge ruled that Jimmy could use his own name but that he had copied the Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill logo and that the billboard had to come down.
8. In the "Hero" episode, Jimmy hired some kids to film the removal of the billboard. What happened while they were filming?

Answer: The worker fell from the billboard.

Jimmy had hired some college kids to film the removal of his billboard, and while they were filming, the worker who was removing the billboard fell off and was hanging by his safety harness. Jimmy climbed up the billboard and rescued him while a crowd gathered below.

While Jimmy and the worker were sitting on the billboard catwalk, the worker turned to Jimmy and said "It took you long enough". It turned out to be another of Jimmy's scams!
9. After his publicity stunt in the "Hero" episode, Jimmy returned to his office in the salon and found what surprise?

Answer: Seven messages on his answering machine

We'd seen Jimmy check his answering machine numerous times in the show but never have any messages until now. Howard Hamlin correctly guessed that the billboard rescue was a publicity stunt, but when he asked Kim whether people would buy it, she answered that "people love a hero", which turned out to be true for Jimmy.

He later told Chuck that his business had picked up and "the worm has turned".
10. At the end of the "Hero" episode, Jimmy didn't want Chuck to know about the billboard escapade, so he put Chuck's newspaper in the trunk of his car. How did Chuck get another paper?

Answer: He took his neighbor's paper.

Jimmy's picture was on the front page of the local section of the paper, and Jimmy knew that Chuck would disapprove of his actions, so he put Chuck's paper in the trunk of his car. Chuck noticed that the Albuquerque paper was missing from the stack of newspapers that Jimmy brought him.

He asked Jimmy to call the newspaper if the paper wasn't delivered tomorrow, but after Jimmy left, Chuck noticed that other houses in the neighborhood had their papers. He wrapped himself in his space blanket, went to his neighbor's house, took her paper and left a $5 bill under a rock to pay for it.
