Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team did not complete either of the Detour tasks in Leg 1 (in Seoul, South Korea)?

Answer: Alana and Niko

In the first leg of the race, teams made their way through a series of tasks in Seoul, South Korea and the Road Block allowed them to either make dumplings (in 'Fold 'Em Fast') or participate in cup stacking (in 'Stack 'Em High'). Tom and Tyler, Joey and Viv, H and Mikayla, Femi and Nick, and Rowah and Amani were able to do the latter in under eight seconds while Tim and Rod, Jasmin and Jerome, Chris and Adrienne, Sid and Ash, and Judy and Therese made fifty dumplings. Alana and Niko did not complete a Detour task having fallen so far behind that they were eliminated.
2. In the second leg of the race, teams played which of these sports with a drone in South Korea's 'All Thumbs' Detour task?

Answer: Soccer

Making their way towards the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea, teams had to complete one of two tasks for their Detour which relied either on their strength and fortitude or their dexterity and mental acuity. While most of the teams fought through a South Korean bootcamp obstacle course in the 'All Heart' option, teams opting for 'All Thumbs' went to a local gymnasium and learned how to operate drones. Once the teams could score one goal per member in a game of drone soccer, they could continue on. Viv and Joey and Judy and Therese completed this task before heading to the Pit Stop.
3. In the 'Make Boat Go' Detour task in Ninh Binh, Vietnam (in Leg 3), teams had to maneuver a boat using which of these?

Answer: Feet

In Ninh Binh, Vietnam, teams disembarked from their buses and immediately dove into a Detour choosing between 'Escargot' and 'Make Boat Go'. In 'Escargot', Viv and Joey, Hayley and Mikayla, Tom and Tyler, Jasmin and Jerome, Tim and Rod, Sid and Ash, and Femi and Nick searched for one hundred snails in the rice paddy fields of rural Vietnam In 'Make Boat Go', Chris and Adrienne and Rowah and Amani paddled boats with their feet to collect a clue. Sid and Ash were U-Turned by Jasmin and Jerome and forced to complete 'Make Boat Go' as well.
4. Which team did not complete a Detour task in Vietnam in Leg 4?

Answer: Jasmin and Jerome

Outside of Ninh Binh, Vietnam, teams braved intense heat in completing one of two tasks.
'Short Strokes', which involved painting traditional masks, was completed by Sid and Ash, Viv and Joey, Femi and Nick, Tim and Rod, Chris and Adrienne, and Rowah and Amani while 'Long Strides', involving stilt-walking on a marked course, was completed by Hayley and Mikayla and Tom and Tyler. Jasmin and Jerome initially went to complete 'Long Strides', but opted instead to complete the Fast Forward available in this leg, successfully doing so and placing fourth overall.
5. In Mongolia (in both Legs 5 and 6), what Detour option was completed by the most teams?

Answer: 'Herd the Rest'

Teams had two Detours during their two-leg stay in Mongolia. In Leg 5, teams headed out to the dunes of the Gobi Desert to complete one of two tasks before heading to the Pit Stop. One team (Tim and Rod) went after 'Milk the Best' while seven other teams herded goats in 'Herd the Rest'.

In Leg 6, teams visited Ulaanbaatar again where five teams learned a traditional folk dance in the 'Dance' Detour and two moved around the markets for 'Deliver'.
6. In Leg 7, the 'Cultivate'/'Separate' Detour option was completed in what African nation?

Answer: Zambia

In Leg 7, teams flew from Mongolia to Zimbabwe, then crossing the border on foot into Zambia for a series of tasks. The Detour was given to teams in the rural Mukuni Village, and there, they had the opportunity to work the fields or perform essential chores at local homes.

In the 'Cultivate' Detour option, completed by Tom and Tyler, Tim and Rod, Femi and Nick, and Viv and Joey teams needed to plough eight furrows in a field while in 'Separate', completed by Jasmin and Jerome and Sid and Ash teams had to build fences on a Zambian property.
7. How many teams completed the Detour task at Chisuma Primary School in Zimbabwe in Leg 8?

Answer: Five

In Leg 8, teams completed one of two tasks in a Zimbabwean school by choosing between 'Build Up' and 'Serve Up'. 'Serve Up', completed by Viv and Joey and Sid and Ash, ended up being the quicker task as they were able to master the recipe of a local porridge dish to serve to ten schoolchildren. 'Build Up', however, was a physical task that required craftsmanship of Tim and Rod, Nick and Femi, and Jasmin and Jerome as they built up two of three playground items (choosing from swings, seesaws, and monkey bars). Tom and Tyler did not complete a Detour option as they claimed the Fast Forward in this leg of the race.
8. In Leg 9 (in Malawi), the Detour was preceded by which of these race mechanics?

Answer: U-Turn vote

In a rare twist on the typical U-Turn mechanic, teams landed in Malawi and were told that they would need to place a vote for someone to be U-Turned immediately. That team would then need to complete both Detour tasks in Leg 9. All teams voted for Tim and Rod to complete the extra task (Tim and Rod voted for Tom and Tyler). For this Detour, teams worked at a local market.

While most completed 'Stack', which involved bagging charcoal the local way, other went with 'Stitch', which involved sewing two shirts.
9. Which Detour task in Leg 10 (in Malawi) ended up involving fish?

Answer: 'Smelly'

In Leg 10, teams engaged with locals in a Malawian village on the coast of Lake Malawi. For their Detour, teams chose between 'Dirty' and 'Smelly'. In 'Dirty', which was selected by Tim and Rod, Femi and Nick, and Jasmin and Jerome, teams needed to clean thirty items of clothing to the satisfaction of the local laundry ladies, and leave them out to dry.

In 'Smelly', teams had to sort the catch of the day on drying tables near the water's edge, dividing them into groups by species (of which there were three).

This one was done by Tom and Tyler and Viv and Joey.
10. The final Detour faced in the race was a choice between 'Water' and 'Wheels'. This Detour also featured a U-Turn.

Answer: True

Like the U-Turn before it (in Leg 9), teams were forced to place votes in order to determine who would need to complete both sides of the Detour, this time in Bangkok, Thailand, only finding out after completing their first task whether or not they would need to do a second.

This time, unanimously, all other teams elected to put front-runners Tom and Tyler to task. This meant that they completed 'Water' (a task involving memorizing the sights along the Chao Phraya River and riding in longtail boats) as well as 'Wheels' (in which they rebuilt and decked out tuk tuks in a local garage).
