Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where is the television series "Post Mortem" set?

Answer: Norway

With the exception of a brief road trip to Sweden to pick up a body, all of the action in "Post Mortem" takes place in the village of Skarnes, Innlandet, Norway. The programme is a Norwegian production and was recorded in the Norwegian language. The full name of the series is "ingen dør i Skarnes" which means "No One Dies in Skarnes."
2. What is the Hallangen family's business?

Answer: a mortuary/funeral director

The sole mortuary and funeral director's establishment in Skarnes has been operated by the Hallangens for five generations. The funeral chapel is on the main floor, the embalming room in the basement and the family's apartments upstairs.
3. What is Live Hallangen's occupation?

Answer: nurse

Live (pronounced LEE-veh) is a nurse in the nursing home in Skarnes. In addition to her medical skills, she has learned the family business, as well. In episode five, she uses the embalming equipment to exsanguinate Doctor Sverre's body; in episode six, she dresses the part of a funeral director and assists in the conduct of the doctor's funeral.
4. How does Live get her patient Margit to cooperate in giving blood samples?

Answer: gives her gin

Apparently, the rules of the nursing home in which Margit is a resident is prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages on premises. Live secures Margit's cooperation in routine blood draws by bringing her small "airplane size" bottles of gin.
5. In the first episode, who is operating the Hallangen family's business?

Answer: Arvid and Odd

Arvid Hallangen is the father of both Odd Hallangen and Live Hallangen. His wife and their mother was Madeleine. Arvid and his son Odd operate the mortuary and funeral home as this series begins, although their partnership is unequal, Odd being more like an employee.
6. Live is killed in the first episode. When she returns to life, what is different about her?

Answer: all of these are correct

Live's resurrection is similar to becoming a vampire, given that she hungers for blood. Her eyes change colour. She has heightened hearing and is much stronger than before she was killed. But, unlike vampires (the word is never used in this programme), she is able to walk in sunlight and does not shy away from garlic or crosses, nor does she grow fangs.
7. How does Arvid die?

Answer: he is accidentally killed by Live

Arvid, knowing what is happening to Live, drugs her and attempts to burn her up in the crematorium. Instead, she breaks out of the wooden coffin in which he has encased her, breaks out of the oven and confronts her father. Surprised by her own strength, she pushes him backwards, he stumbles and is impaled on a piece of sharp wood.
8. What is Live's relationship with Reinert?

Answer: their relationship is romantic

Reinert and Live have an on-and-off romantic relationship. This leads them into bed together in the scene where she, in a black-out of blood lust, kills him. He revives, so she kills him again. He revives again. Once they accept the fact that they are immortal, he likes the thought of spending eternity together.
9. What was Judith's connection to Live's mother?

Answer: she investigated her for murder

Madeleine suffered from the same condition as Live. Judith was the senior police officer in Skarnes at the time and actively pursued her suspicion that Madeleine was connected with several unsolved homicides. Some people thought that Judith's doggedness led to Madeleine's suicide.
10. How did "Post Mortem" get its series subtitle?

Answer: few deaths means poor business for undertakers

The Hallangen Company is deeply in debt when Arvid dies. Odd is unaware of this financial difficulty. If he does not come up with a substantial payment to the bank, he will lose the business, the building, and their home. Were there only more business for him, this would not be a problem. But several characters observe throughout the show, "No one dies in Skarnes."
