Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 2 of the race, teams visited Motu Tapu, alleged to be one of the most photographed islands in the South Pacific. Where did teams visit it?

Answer: French Polynesia

Legs 1 and 2 of the race took teams from Los Angeles to the idyllic beaches and islands of French Polynesia, forcing them to contend with tough challenges in the sky, land, and sea. In Leg 1, team members skydived, built sandcastles, and paddled canoes while in Leg 2, teams swam in the open ocean, rode jetskis, and maneuvered stilts. Notably, this season featured two Express Passes (both given to Leg 1 winners Jessica and John), one of which had to be given to a second team. Teams ended their stay in French Polynesia on Motu Tapu, home of their second Pit Stop.
2. In Leg 3, teams had an overnight rest in New Zealand, staying on the edge of the Rakaia River. The following morning, they took turns doing which of these?

Answer: Driving speedboats

In Leg 3, teams had to go island-hopping, heading from Bora Bora to connecting flights in Tahiti and New Zealand's North Island before flying down to Christchurch. The entire third leg brought teams through adventurous tasks. After spending the night on the Rakaia River Gorge, teams boated down the river and either drove modified cars or went fishing for their Detour and then joined in a Shemozzle run for the Road Block.

This leg ultimately ended with Phil handing teams their next clue, pushing them directly into Leg 4 in a different country.
3. In the fourth leg of the race, Jessica and John were eliminated from the race on Uluwatu Beach, likely because they opted not to use which of these?

Answer: Express Pass

In Leg 4, teams flew four thousand more miles from New Zealand to Bali, Indonesia. This leg took advantage of the beautiful sights, arts, and culture of this Indonesian island paradise as teams had the chance to visit the monkeys of Ubud and search the surf shops of Uluwatu.

This leg was notable for featuring Jessica and John's infamous demise as they opted not to use the Express Pass to save themselves from elimination. They became the first team to leave the competition without using it.
4. During Leg 5, teams encountered Hoan Kiem Lake, the Temple of Literature, and a downed B-52 bomber in what Southeast Asian city?

Answer: Hanoi

This fifth leg was an interesting one that initially equalized teams, flying them into Hanoi only to get stopped by hours of operation at a city gallery. Although this leg of the race saw a frantic Road Block and two tough mental Detour options, it also saw a doubly-used Blind Double U-Turn.

The festivities ended early for Dave and Connor, however, as they went to Vietnam to withdraw from the race. It resulted in an less-than-concerning result for the last place team, Chuck and Wynona, since they were kept in the race due to this earlier issue.
5. Shown here is the Botswanan town of Maun where, in Leg 7, how many teams incurred speeding tickets?

Answer: Two

Racing to Botswana in Legs 6 and 7, the final seven teams forced challenges in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, the Kalahari Desert, and the Okavango Delta around the town of Maun. In Leg 7, as teams drove through Maun en route to their first clue, Caroline and Jennifer and Max and Katie were both caught out by a speed trap and forced to pay off their tickets immediately; they had to do this to proceed with the race. Fortunately, neither team was eliminated. That fell to Pam and Winnie who repeatedly failed to complete their Detour task and dropped from second to last.
6. In Leg 8, teams visited the Sphinx Observatory at one of Switzerland's (and Europe's) highest points. What did they deliver there?

Answer: Saint Bernards

Heading to the Swiss Alps in the Grindelwald region in Leg 8, teams left the heat of Africa and emerged into snowy winter weather. Throughout this leg, teams rode the rails to several high-altitude spots to deliver dogs to the Sphinx Observatory at Jungfrau, climb the sheer cliff faces on the north side of the Eiger, and collect cheese in a classic Switchback from "The Amazing Race 14". Chuck and Wynona arrived at the Pit Stop in fifth place in this leg, but a penalty forced them to wait out a half hour and they were eliminated on the back of this.
7. Teams reached the Brandenburg Gate in Leg 9, stopping off at what German city for the bulk of their tasks?

Answer: Berlin

Although teams flew from Basel, Switzerland in the start of Leg 9, their tasks this time around actually commenced in Dresden, where teams had to pick up their Ford vehicles and navigate into the center of Berlin. There, teams leapt off buildings, made special deliveries, and searched through inner-city labyrinths to complete this nighttime leg.

In the end, Mona and Beth stepped on the mat seconds after Bates and Anthony though they were spared by the final non-elimination of the season.
8. Visiting Edinburgh in Leg 10, teams had to search what part of Craigmillar Castle for their Detour clues?

Answer: Fireplaces

The tenth leg of the race sent teams from Berlin, Germany to the Scottish capital where they had to drive themselves in and around Edinburgh completing all tasks of a Scottish nature. In addition to learning to play the bagpipes at Gosford Hall, most teams had the chance to make and sample haggis in the village of Duddingston. Teams searched the ruins of Craigmillar Castle for a clue, encountered the second Double U-Turn of the race, and saw the last Speed Bump as Joey and Meghan were eliminated in fifth.
9. In Northern Ireland, teams capped off Leg 11 by visiting the dry dock for what famous ship?

Answer: Titanic

Taking the train and ferry from Scotland, the final four teams made their way to the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland, taking part in activities in and around this capital. In addition to going bog snorkelling in the peatlands of County Armagh, teams had the chance, for their Detour, of visiting the famous dry dock where the Titanic was built. Only three teams moved past this leg of the race. Caroline and Jennifer fell out of the running after the Road Block.
10. Arriving in Washington D.C. in Leg 12, teams had to visit what famous site, depicted?

Answer: Lincoln Memorial

In Leg 12, teams had to return to the United States and make their way directly to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to collect a clue. The only hint they had was knowing the location where Martin Luther King gave his "I Have a Dream..." speech. The final three also got the chance to revisit a task featured in the race's 'Family Edition' and complete a unique memory task at Hains Point.

In the end of the race, Anthony and Bates stepped on the finish line first, winning the million dollar prize at Mount Vernon.
