Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Botswana in Leg 7, which team completed the Fast Forward task?

Answer: Anthony and Bates

Departing from the Pit Stop at the Meno A Kwena Safari Camp in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park early in the morning, teams needed to proceed on foot to their four-wheel drive vehicles and navigate their way through the nearby town of Maun to the Makoro Poling Station in Boro Village. Two teams, surprisingly, were caught speeding and needed to pay their fines before proceeding.

Others got hopelessly lost. Upon arriving at the village teams had the chance to complete the Fast Forward which required that they stay standing on water skis for an entire minute while jetting down the nearby Thamalakane River. Anthony and Bates finished this task before being taken to the Pit Stop.
2. Max and Katie, who finished the previous leg in last place, had to perform a Speed Bump task in Leg 7.

Answer: True

Arriving at Boro Village in last place, Max and Katie needed to complete a mandatory Speed Bump task before continuing on in the race course. This task involved dressing up with local villagers and performing a customary 'seduction dance' in local garb.

When they did so to the satisfaction of the locals, they would be able to continue on with their next task. This was the first Speed Bump of the race considering that Leg 6 was the first non-elimination and non-continuous leg. In Leg 3, Chuck and Wynona were spared from elimination but because the race continued immediately from the Pit Stop they did not face a Speed Bump task.
3. During the Road Block task in Botswana in Leg 7, team members had to navigate which of these forms of transportation?

Answer: Canoes

Arriving at Boro Village, teams needed to complete a Road Block task on the Thamalakane River with the expectation of 'going up a creek without a paddle'. For this challenge, one member of each team needed to navigate a traditional dugout canoe one mile upstream to transport two baby goats to a holding pen; they then needed to paddle back. Winnie, Wynona, Max, Joey, Beth, and Caroline completed this task.

After this, teams needed to take a water taxi upriver before getting a ride to the Royal Tree Lodge Game Preserve.
4. In the 'Brains' Detour task in Leg 7, teams had to memorize the silhouettes of how many different wild animals?

Answer: Ten

At the Royal Tree Lodge Game Preserve, teams opened the Detour clue to find a choice between 'Brains' and 'Brawn'. In 'Brains', teams rode horseback on a lengthy course to locate ten different animal silhouettes on their marked route. At the end they needed to use ten tiles (of many) to record the correct order as seen. If they got the sequence wrong they would need to start the whole thing over. Only Chuck and Wynona finished this one.

In 'Brawn', teams had to load a device up with firewood, then have it drawn through the forest to a clearing by a pair of stubborn donkeys. Mona and Beth, Caroline and Jennifer, Joey and Meghan, Max and Katie, and Pam and Winnie did this one despite struggles.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Botswana in Leg 7?

Answer: Pam and Winnie

After the Detour teams proceeded on foot to the nearby Pit Stop in the Royal Tree Lodge Game Preserve. Anthony and Bates, who claimed the Fast Forward clue, ended up placing first and won $7,500 each in their third win of the race. As the other teams, marred by other issues in the leg, ended up checking in, typical front-runners Pam and Winnie (the only other team remaining to that point with a first place win) ended up failing the 'Brains' task several times (missing one silhouette en route) and were eliminated upon checking in.
6. In Leg 8, teams needed to get their first clue in Switzerland. To which city did they fly?

Answer: Zurich

Opening their clues outside the Royal Tree Lodge Game Preserve, the teams were told to fly five thousand miles northward to Switzerland, a much colder locale than Maun, Botswana. Because they needed to leave the following morning, all six remaining teams ended up taking the same flight to Zurich, Switzerland where they needed to receive a clue from a conductor sending them via rail from Zurich Airport railway station to the town of Grindelwald.

At Kirche Grindelwald, teams would receive their clue from an Alpine Shepherd the next morning.
7. In Leg 8 in Switzerland, teams needed to deliver which type of animal to a handler?

Answer: Dog

From Grindelwald, teams were told to race to the train station to catch the next available train ride to the Kleine Scheidegg railway station. Once there they would need to proceed on foot to the Hotel Bellevue des Alpes, a famous alpine ski resort thousands of feet above sea level.

Here, they had to collect a St. Bernard dog who would need to be delivered even higher into the mountains to a new handler. This required that teams board yet another train, this time to the highest train station in Europe, Jungfraujoch, 3,471 feet above sea level.
8. In Leg 8, teams completed the Road Block task on which Swiss Alp?

Answer: Eiger

After delivering their dogs the teams had to continue on foot around Jungfrau to find their next task at the Sphinx Observatory. This was the Road Block task for this leg of the race, and it required that one member of each team be selected for a frightening ordeal, being harnessed in to scale the side of the Eiger's sheer rock face, thousands of feet up. Once the selected team made made their way along the wall, moving from observatory window to observatory window and collecting a Travelocity Roaming Gnome along the way, they could continue on with the clue on the base of their new companion.

This required that they take the train back to Grindelwald. Bates, Katie, Beth, Wynona, Jennifer, and Meghan completed the task.
9. In the end of Leg 8, the teams had to complete a Switchback involving which of the following?

Answer: Cheese

Heading back to Grindelwald, teams needed to cross the Lütschine Brüggli bridge to listen for the sound of an alphorn. The person using it gave the teams' next clue, a difficult Switchback task recalling the cheeserolling task in "The Amazing Race 14".

The difference? This time it would be a snow-covered hill. Teams had to ascend the hill with two sleds and transport four cheese wheels, each fifty pounds in weight, and slide them down properly, returning them to the cabin to get their next clue.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Switzerland in Leg 8?

Answer: Chuck and Wynona

After the cheese hill task, the teams were told to make their way to the next Pit Stop overlooking Grindelwald, the Bodmi Snowboard and Ski School. They could do so by any means available. Anthony and Bates, for a third consecutive leg, ended up arriving in first place, winning themselves a trip back to Bora Bora courtesy of Travelocity.

This was their fourth win overall. Although Chuck and Wynona passed Joey and Meghan by taking a taxi to the Pit Stop they ended up incurring a thirty minute penalty by not completing the cheese task properly.

As such, Joey and Meghan arrived within the time and saved themselves from last place; Chuck and Wynona were eliminated.
