Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of Leg 9, teams flew from Switzerland and headed to what German city?

Answer: Dresden

Heading out from the Alpine city of Grindelwald, Switzerland at the start of Leg 9, teams were told to head to the airport in Zurich and fly themselves to the city of Dresden, Germany. Upon their arrival they needed to get into taxis and travel to their Ford vehicles waiting outside the Ministry of Finance.

Inside they would have to use a feature in the car to answer three trivia questions about their next destination before they would be given their next clue automatically. They would then have to leave Dresden.
2. Heading to the city of Berlin, teams received a clue outside which monument?

Answer: Brandenburg Gate

Leaving Dresden, teams had to drive one hundred kilometers to the city of Berlin, Germany's capital, to find a route marker waiting at the Brandenburg Gate. Once there they had to make their way to the Park Inn Berlin, take the elevator to the rooftop, and perform a BASE jump 125m off the roof of the city's tallest building. Only when both members completed this face-first drop would they be able to continue racing through the city.
3. Racers opting to complete the 'Font Follies' Detour option in Leg 9 (in Germany) had to do which of the following?

Answer: Carry giant letters

After BASE jumping, teams received the Detour task, a choice between 'Font Follies' and 'Train Trials'. In 'Font Follies', teams traveled on foot to a nearby street corner to find illuminated letters from large signs. They then needed to carry them through the Berlin streets to the Museum of Letters, home to many neon letter signage, also known as Buchstabenmuseum. If they broke their letter (as Bates and Anthony did) they would need to retrieve a new one to replace it. Max and Katie, Caroline and Jennifer, and Mona and Beth completed this one.

In 'Train Trials', teams went to the city's Museum of Technology (Deutsches Technikmuseum) to construct a train set. Once they used all the pieces, set it up, and performed a complete circuit, they could carry on. Joey and Meghan and Bates and Anthony finished this.
4. Before completing the Road Block, teams needed to recall who said "Ich bin ein Berliner". Who did they discover said the original quote?

Answer: John F. Kennedy

After the Detour, teams needed to locate an East Berlin bar known as Salon Zur Wilden Renate and, once there, they found the Road Block. For this task, one member of each team first needed to figure out the answer to a trivia question about Berlin. Then they would receive a coin granting them access to a visceral, frightening labyrinth within the building full of tight tunnels, flashing lights, dark hallways, and odd bric-a-brac.

When they located 'the white room' they would find their next clue. Katie, Joey, Jennifer, Anthony, and Beth all finished the maze.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Germany in Leg 9?

Answer: Mona and Beth

After the Road Block, teams were told to drive to the next Pit Stop, Joachimstaler Platz at Kurfürstendamm. Max and Katie, who held onto a strong lead throughout the entire leg, ended up getting to the mat in first place for the first time this race (breaking Bates and Anthony's three-win streak). For their victory they both won Ford Fusion vehicles.

In the end it was a footrace between Bates and Anthony and Mona and Beth. Despite the girls leading their opponents to the mat they were unable to reach it first.

They were, however, spared in the race's final non-elimination leg.
6. In Leg 10 teams flew to Scotland. During the Road Block, they had to play what traditional Scottish instrument?

Answer: Bagpipes

In Leg 10, teams were told to head to the Berlin Airport to catch the next available flight to Edinburgh, Scotland. Once they touched down they would be able to drive themselves to the next clue waiting outside Gosford House, a mansion standing in Longniddry.

Here, one member of each team had to dress in Scottish garb, learn how to play a sustained note on a bagpipe, and perform a lap around the upper floor of the mansion (a two minute circuit). When this was properly done they could continue. Max, Bates, and Caroline were chosen to complete the task while Mona and Meghan were both required to do so as they needed to catch up in order to even out their Road Block numbers.
7. In Scotland in Leg 10, one team had to perform a Speed Bump. For this, they played what Scottish game?

Answer: Skittles

After the Road Block, teams had to go to Craigmillar Castle in Edinburgh and search the fireplaces for their next clue. Before this, however, Mona and Beth needed to perform their Speed Bump task. For this, they had to travel to the nearby village of Duddingston and play Skittles, a game similar to regular bowling only using balls with no finger-holes. Once they knocked all ten pins down in one swing they could return to the race course and search the castle.
8. During the Detour in Scotland (in Leg 10), how many teams opted to make haggis in the 'Tasty Puddin'' option?

Answer: Four

After finding the clue at Craigmillar Castle, teams drove to the village of Duddingston to choose between 'Tasty Puddin'' and 'Whiskey Rollin''. In the former, they visited the Sheep's Heid Pub to create traditional Scottish haggis. Once they stuffed intestines with ingredients and seasonings to the approval of a local, then tasted a cooked version of the national dish, they would receive their next clue. Max and Katie, Caroline and Jennifer, Mona and Beth, and Joey and Meghan all decided to perform this task while Bates and Anthony opted for 'Whiskey Rollin'', a more physical option.
9. How many teams were U-Turned in Leg 10 (in Scotland)?

Answer: Two

After the Detour, teams proceeded on foot through the village of Duddingston to the church, Duddingston Kirk, where they found the second Double U-Turn of the race. Bates and Anthony used it to turn around Joey and Meghan while Max and Katie turned around Mona and Beth, forcing alliance members to battle for last place.

As a result, both teams had to complete 'Whiskey Rollin'', which involved transporting eight large barrels full of whiskey two hundred yards, upwards through the streets of Duddingston to a local gathering.

After doing this they could continue onward.
10. Which team was eliminated in Scotland at the end of Leg 10?

Answer: Joey and Meghan

After the Detour task (and subsequent U-Turn), teams were told to drive through Edinburgh to the tenth Pit Stop of the race, sitting in the narrow alleyway of Niddry Street South in Old Town Edinburgh. Max and Katie, using their navigation skills, passed Bates and Anthony to arrive on the mat in first place yet again (their second time in a row).

This time they both won $10,000 each to go with their previously-won cars. In the end Mona and Beth overcame a Speed Bump and U-Turn to arrive in fourth place while their alliance mates, Joey and Meghan, arrived in last place.

As such they became the seventh team eliminated from the race.
