Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many teams took a penalty instead of completing the sandcastle Road Block in Leg 1?

Answer: Three

The first leg of the race took teams from Los Angeles to Bora Bora. Upon arriving, teams found their first Road Block right at the airport-- a task requiring one team member to take a harrowing 10,000 feet parachute out of a helicopter (completed by John, Jamil, Connor, Winnie, Chuck, Caroline, Anthony, Matt, Max, Mona, and Meghan). The second Road Block in this first leg was less harrowing but, seemingly, more difficult as the other team members needed to search through four hundred sandcastles on a Bora Bora beach for their clue. If they broke a sandcastle, they needed to rebuild it before checking another.

The heat and stress overwhelmed several racers leading to four hour time penalties for Katie, Jennifer, and Daniel.
2. In Leg 2, team completing the Road Block had to perform a stilt-walk challenge in Bora Bora. Did Dave rupture his achilles tendon in this task?

Answer: No

After taking a personal watercraft to Motu Tapu, teams needed to choose one member each to compete a beach stilt-walk for their Road Block. In this task, the selected member had to traverse thirty-five yards through the sand while also knocking a coconut across the finish line.

When this was done, they could race on foot to the next Pit Stop at the other end of the island. Notably, the run to the Pit Stop after this task is where Dave ruptured his achilles tendon, ultimately leading to their self-elimination in Leg 5. Joey, Jessica, Connor, Anthony, Beth, Chuck, Pam, Max, Caroline, and Jamil completed the task.
3. In Leg 4, team members had to locate surfboards marked with a person previously seen in which earlier location?

Answer: Bora Bora

In Leg 4, teams had to find a coastal surf shop on Uluwatu Beach and search through the shop's wares to locate one with a sticker featuring something seen by all of the teams at some point on the race (it was the image of the Tahitian priest that blessed the teams in Bora Bora).

When found, they could proceed on food to the next Pit Stop along the cliffs next to Uluwatu Temple. If they got the wrong board, they would have to go back and try again. Winnie, Connor, Max, Caroline, Chuck, Joey, Mona, Bates, and John were all selected for this one.
4. In Leg 5, team members watched a song and dance in Hanoi, Vietnam. Which team did not finish this Road Block?

Answer: Dave and Connor

In Leg 5, teams flew to Hanoi, Vietnam to find Gallery 42 of Rap Cong Nhan Theater. There, onw person from each team needed to watch a performance of a patriotic Vietnamese song. At the end, dancers would reveal a nine-word Vietnamese phrase translating to 'Glory to our young generation'.

Then they needed to find a political poster featuring their quote in a nearby gallery, having only five minutes to do so before needing to watch the performance again. Jennifer, Meghan, Pam, Anthony, Beth, Katie, and Chuck were selected for this task. Neither Dave nor Connor attempted this one as they eliminated themselves at the start of the leg.
5. In Botswana in Leg 7, team members paddled dugout canoes to transport which of these things?

Answer: Goats

In Leg 7, teams had to drive to Boro Village in Botswana where, finding the Makoro Polling Station, one member of each team needed to 'go up a creek without a paddle' (though only half literally). For this task, the selected member had to paddle a makoro, a traditional dugout canoe, in the Okavango Delta while transporting two goats. Once placed into the holding pen, the racer could then paddle themselves and their teammate back to the starting point to get their next clue. Winnie, Wynona, Beth, Caroline, Joey, and Max completed this task. Anthony and Bates took the Fast Forward and, thus, didn't participate.
6. In Switzerland in Leg 8, the Road Block took place on what Swiss Alp?

Answer: Eiger

After a series of train rides taking teams to the top of Europe, teams found a Road Block waiting at the Sphinx Observatory. For this one, the teams had to take a train to Eigerwand Station and the selected racer had to climb out the observation windows and climb around the front side of the Eiger, 6000ft up.

There, Beth, Bates, Katie, Meghan, Jennifer, and Wynona had to collect a Travelocity Roaming Gnome holding their clue and return to their partner before taking the train back down to Grindelwald.
7. Team members had the opportunity to search through a labyrinth found underneath a bar in what European city in Leg 9?

Answer: Berlin

Visiting the Salon Zur Wilden Renate in Berlin, Germany at the end of the ninth leg of the race, the five competing teams received a Road Block clue at the entrance to the maze. Selected team members needed to explore a unique dance club after identifying the speaker of a famous German quote by sinking into a theatrical labyrinth and locate the white room to find their next clue attached to a wall. Katie, Joey, Jennifer, Beth, and Anthony completed this task.
8. During the Road Block in Leg 10, team members had to learn to play what traditional instrument?

Answer: Bagpipes

Heading to Gosford House in Longniddry, Scotland in Leg 10, team members had to make the Road Block choice on the back of knowing that they would be performing with the Royal Regiment of Scotland. After dressing in a kilt and formalwear, the selected team members (Max, Bates, Caroline, Mona, and Meghan) had to work with an instructor and learn to play a harmonizing note while walking around the marble room of Gosford House, a two minute circuit when fully completed. If they sustained the note, they got their next clue.
9. In the eleventh leg of the race, who was the only participant who took more than one attempt to complete the bog snorkelling Road Block task in Northern Ireland?

Answer: Jennifer

Arriving in County Armagh in Northern Ireland, teams had to participate in a Road Block task that asked 'who wants to get bogged down?' For this, the selected team member (or forced team member, depending on completed Road Block totals) needed to participate in a bog snorkelling competition, suiting up in a wetsuit, snorkel, mask, and flippers.

They started by performing a cannonball into the bog, then taking a hundred yard swimming course, returning to the starting point. If they did this in under four minutes, they got their clue. Katie, Anthony, Mona, and Jennifer completed the task. Only Jennifer couldn't do it on the first go.
10. The final Road Block task of the race was a Switchback that occurred in what U.S. city?

Answer: Washington D.C.

Arriving at the Tidal Basin of West Potomac Park, teams had to locate a marked car and knock three times on the window to receive a briefcase containing their Road Block. Teams had a Switchback in this instance, revisiting a task last seen in "The Amazing Race 8: Family Edition" in which they had to use a secret password assigned to them to receive a briefcase from one of fifty people wandering around the Tidal Basin. If they got the right briefcase, the code to get inside was their placement in Legs 3, 4, and 5 in that order, generating a three digit number. Max, Bates, and Beth completed this last Road Block task.
