Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At Signal Hill in the first leg of the race, teams needed to decipher which of these to get a clue?

Answer: Morse Code

The very first task in this fifth "Amazing Race Canada" had teams work on the site of the earliest transatlantic communication, deciphering morse code to get the phrase 'VANCOUVER CAPILANO BRIDGE', which would result in a clue sending them to the airport to get tickets on a flight to British Columbia.

They would return to Newfoundland in a much later leg of the race. In a surprise decision, Andrea and Ebonie took a two-hour penalty on this first task, serving it out at the first Pit Stop and dropping from second place to seventh.
2. In Leg 2, teams visited which Alberta town, devastated by wildfires only a year earlier in 2016?

Answer: Fort McMurray

The second leg of the race took teams to the devastated town of Fort McMurray, visiting forests destroyed by wildfires in 2016. There, teams participated in wild, wet, and deceptively tricky challenges as they traveled into the Wood Buffalo region to fight fires, shoot clay pigeons, and take helicopter rides over the burnt-out expanses. Teams also ended up picking up three Express Passes in this leg of the race, all of which would be used in the very next leg (or not, depending).
3. In Beijing, China in Leg 4, teams completed which of these types of tasks at the Great Wall?

Answer: Route Info

The Great Wall was actually teams' first stop in China in Leg 4, and when they arrived they needed to memorize a tour guide script in English, French, and Mandarin to adequately perform for a group of tourists on a Sinorama tour. Once they were able to properly convey their performance, they could continue on with the race.

In Beijing, teams also visited the Canadian Embassy, a traditional pharmacy, and an Olympic pool. They would continue onward to Shanghai in Leg 5.
4. In the fifth leg of the race, teams rode water taxis on the Chao Phraya River, a waterway in what country?

Answer: Thailand

Leg 5 took teams from Bangkok to Shanghai, China and then onward to Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, taking them onward through a double-length leg through Asia. In this leg of the race, Adam and Andrea took the race's only Fast Forward to win while other teams took a water taxi ride to perform in a puppet show and then either went surfing or shopping before checking in at the Pit Stop (finally) in Wat Thewarat Kunchorn Worawihan Temple. Zed and Shabbir were eliminated there.
5. In Leg 6, teams completed a Citizenship Test in which of these Canadian museums situated in Gatineau, Quebec?

Answer: The Canadian Museum of History

While Leg 6 mostly delved into the artistic side of Canada's national capital, the final task of the leg took on a more historical turn, sending teams to Gatineau across the river and to the Canadian Museum of History (formerly the Canadian Museum of Civilization) where after a stop in The Hub, teams sat down to complete a citizenship test. During this leg, teams also celebrated Ottawa's springtime tulip festival and joined the RCMP's Musical Ride.
6. In the seventh leg of the race, teams visited Gros Morne National Park. What did teams need to do in the 'Find Your Dory' Detour task there?

Answer: Paddle a boat

Visiting the western end of Newfoundland in Leg 7, early tasks in this leg of the race took place in the historic Gros Morne National Park, known for being a Viking landing site. While some teams brushed up on Norse mythology, others paddled dory paddleboats around the bay there and Andrea and Ebonie partook in the race's first Speed Bump.

A Face Off task sent teams five-pin bowling in Corner Brook proper while a Road Block task in the same leg tested team members' comedy chops in front of a live audience.
7. Leg 8, the final international leg of the race, took teams to what Central American capital city?

Answer: Panama City

Leg 8 was the third of three international legs of the race in this season, and it took teams from Corner Brook, Newfoundland to Panama City, Panama, five thousand kilometers southward to sunny Central America. While there, teams enjoyed some fine craft beers, took a few rounds in a boxing ring, and explored the old markets of Casco Viejo.

This was the final non-elimination leg of the race, sparing Karen and Bert from an early exit from the game.
8. It was off to rural Saskatchewan in Leg 9. Did any tasks involve grain harvesting?

Answer: Yes

During the leg's Canada 150 Challenge, teams could have opted to use a grain auger to transport one thousand kilograms of canola seeds. Teams completing this Detour task (Sam and Paul, Adam and Andrea, and Karen and Bert) ended up moving the auger on their own, figuring out how to operate it, and filling it by hand to get their clue.

In this leg of the race, teams ended up visiting both Regina and Moose Jaw before checking in on the Armed Forces runway used by the Snowbirds.
9. In Leg 10, teams visited Sault Ste. Marie, a part of which geological location?

Answer: Canadian Shield

Part of the Canadian Shield where Lake Superior and Lake Huron meet, Sault Ste. Marie ('The Soo') could be considered cottage country to some. A place of dense woodland and natural beauty, it was a focus for Canadian artists, some of whose works the racers got to view in Leg 10 heading through the Algoma Highlands.

In this leg of the race, teams had their final Detour task and a second Face-Off, pitting teams against each other in the unique game of crokicurl before the final team was eliminated en route to the finals.
10. Quebec City's Montmorency Falls played host to which of these tasks in the race's final leg?

Answer: Road Block

In the last leg of the race, teams completed tasks to test their physical and mental prowess in and around Quebec City, and the first such task was at Montmorency Falls where one member of each team had to climb down and up a cargo net suspended in front of the natural landmark.

In this leg, teams also biked around downtown Quebec City, climbed a tower, and celebrated Canada 150 with a final memory task involving a complicated jigsaw puzzle. In the end, Sam and Paul crossed the Finish Line to win it all.
