Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 7, teams flew to which Newfoundland city?

Answer: Corner Brook

Commencing Leg 7 of the race in Major's Hill Park in Ottawa, Ontario, teams were told to head to make their way to the airport to fly northeast, arriving in Corner Brook, Newfoundland (via Deer Lake). Upon landing there, the remaining six teams in the race needed to hop into 2017 Chevrolet Sparks and drive themselves to a specific Bank of Montreal branch in town to get their next clue.

This happened to come in the form of a video message from the racers' families, of course resulting in emotional events.
2. Teams completing the 'Family Story' Detour option in Leg 7 (in Newfoundland) dealt with which pantheon?

Answer: Norse

After visiting the BMO location, teams drove to the discovery center at Gros Morne National Park to find a Detour clue waiting for them. In 'Family Story' teams needed to listen to three actors recite details of the family tree of the Norse Gods to celebrate the Viking landing in the area. Once they built an accurate family tree of the Norse pantheon, they could get their next clue.

This was done by Karen and Bert and Adam and Andrea. Other teams completed 'Find Your Dory', which had teams paddle a dory boat into Bonne Bay to locate a marked lobster trap containing their next clue. Before this, Andrea and Ebonie had to complete a Speed Bump task for placing last in Leg 6. For this, they had to participate in an archery challenge and accumulate points on a bullseye.

After getting twenty-five points, they continued on the race course.
3. What sport was played during the Face Off challenge in Leg 7?

Answer: Five-Pin Bowling

After the Detour, teams were directed back into Corner Brook to participate in the fourth Canada 150 Challenge of the race at Corner Brook Centre Bowl. There, teams found the first Face Off in this season, taking turns going head-to-head at ten frames of five-pin bowling, a variation of the sport seemingly exclusive to Canada. If the team won their game, they could continue, but if they lost, they would need to face the next team in line.

The last team to remain would have to wait out a predetermined amount of time before continuing on in the race.
4. In Leg 7 (in Newfoundland), teams took to the stage for a Road Block task involving which of these?

Answer: Stand-up comedy

After the Face Off, teams drove through Corner Brook to face their Road Block task at Swirsky's Theatre and Music Hall. There, one member of each team needed to be 'da bomb' and take to the stage in a stand-up comedy event. The selected team member would be provided with a list of fifty jokes, and from that they needed to properly convey twelve. If they could do so, they would receive their next clue and continue on; if not, they would be booed and heckled off the stage. Sam, Andrea, Kenneth, Bert, Ivana, and Ebonie completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 7?

Answer: Andrea and Ebonie

After a couple of laughs at the comedy club, teams jumped into their cars and headed to the seventh Pit Stop of the race, the lookout at the Captain James Cook National Historic Site. There, Sam and Paul won the leg-- their second of the race-- and received a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to celebrate.

After completing a Speed Bump and then having to wait out the time at the Face Off, Andrea and Ebonie were unable to make up the time necessary to keep themselves out of last place. They ended up becoming the fifth team eliminated from the game, leaving only five.
6. Teams flew to what Central American nation in Leg 8?

Answer: Panama

Leaving Corner Brook City Hall late at night, the remaining five teams were given a clue instructing them to fly to Panama City, Panama for Leg 8, five thousand kilometers south from Newfoundland. This flight would take teams from Deer Lake to Toronto and then onward to Panama City. Upon touching down in Central America, teams had to take a cab to the Biomuseo where they would need to search through the exhibits for a white wolf statue. Under this would be an unmarked box containing their next clue.
7. In the eighth leg of the race, which team member did not complete the dress pattern matching Road Block?

Answer: Bert

After visiting the Biomuseo, teams needed to take a cab to Casco Viejo where, at Paseo Esteban Huertas on the seawall, they received a Road Block task specifically looking for someone who was 'ready to meet their match'. For this task, the selected participant had to pick a fabric design and head out into the streets of Casco Viejo to find one Kuna woman wearing that pattern as her mola. If they could find the match, they could bring the woman back to the original stall and get their next clue. Karen, Adam, Paul, Ryan, and Korey completed this task.
8. In the Detour in Leg 8, all five teams ended up completing which task in Central America?

Answer: Down For the Count

Immediately after the Road Block, teams were handed a Detour task sending them to enjoy some Panamanian activities. All of the teams ended up completing 'Down For the Count', a task which required that they learn specific boxing drills and perform them in the ring in the proper order for a trainer. That didn't stop people, however, from attempting 'Up For a Drink', during which three teams went to Hotel Las Clementinas to taste test five different beers and try to match up flavour undertones. There were five Casa Bruja beers and fourteen different flavours, and after a while, teams couldn't make sense of their answers, so all of them switched.
9. During Leg 8 (in Central America), all team members needed to memorize and perform which kind of routine?

Answer: Baton twirling

Upon completion of the Detour task, teams needed to take a taxi to Sports Complex Escuela Dr. Belisario Porras. There, they found a clue box and were told to join a local marching band. Working with a baton twirler, the teams had to learn the exact moves of the drum majorette to properly lead the 120-piece band through their routine. If either of the racers on the team made a misstep or performed the routine out of sync, they would need to try again.

The band leader would only give the clue if they did it just right. And that clue would be a photograph, and nothing more.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 8 to find it was the the final non-elimination leg?

Answer: Karen and Bert

After the marching band task, teams were given nothing more than the image of Jon Montgomery in front of a Panamá sign. There was a bit of a catch though-- there were two signs in the city. While some teams found the wrong one on a causeway, Jon was at the Pit Stop at Cinta Costera as per the photo. Sam and Paul won their third leg of the race (and second in a row) and claimed a trip for two to New Orleans, Louisiana as a prize. Karen and Bert were the last to arrive, having been tricked by the photo, but were spared with the final non-elimination Pit Stop.
