Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Teams commenced this race in what far-east province of Canada?

Answer: Newfoundland and Labrador

Heading almost as far east as they could go, the ten teams in this fifth Canadian "Amazing Race" gathered at the starting line at the Queen's Battery in St. John's, Newfoundland, where they were given the go from Jon Montgomery and told to race up to Cabot Tower on Signal Hill for their first task.

At that windy spot, teams needed to listen for a morse code message, then decode it with a provided guide to get their next destination and, subsequently, their next clue. Nine of the teams completed this task while Andrea and Ebonie instead decided to take an early penalty to get to the airport first; they would serve out their two-hour penalty upon arriving at the Pit Stop.
2. In Leg 1, teams were told to fly to what British Columbian city?

Answer: Vancouver

Teams heading out from St. John's were told that their next clue would be near Vancouver, British Columbia's Capilano Suspension Bridge, so when they flew across the entire country, they ended up getting their next task from a falconer high up in the Suspension Bridge Park.

This clue sent teams back into the city to find the statue of "Gassy Jack" Deighton in Gastown, and it's there that racers encountered their first Road Block clue of the race.
3. The first Road Block of the race introduced the special edition 'Canada 150 Challenge'.

Answer: True

Arriving in Gastown, teams were told to pick a member who was 'feeling uptight'. The cryptic clue actually referred to a height's challenge suspended fourteen storeys above the ground, where the selected team member needed to walk a tightrope across the roofs of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver without falling.

This also ended up being the first of several Canada 150 Challenges during the race designed to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. The participants of this task included Ebonie, Paul, Ryan, Shabbir, Megan, Deb, Ivana, Adam, Dan, and Bert.
4. The 'Paddle' Detour task in Leg 1 (in British Columbia) had team members paddle which of these?

Answer: Dragon boat

After the Road Block, teams received their first Detour task of the race which led to a choice between 'Pedal' and 'Paddle'. In 'Pedal', teams needed to ride bikes on Sunset Beach and learn how to play bike polo, completing a series of drills to get their next clue.

In 'Paddle', teams instead headed to the coast at False Creek where they had to take two different positions on a dragon boat and navigate around a marked course. 'Pedal' was finished by Andrea and Ebonie, Korey and Ivana, Megan and Courtney, Karen and Bert, Zed and Shabbir, Dan and Riya, and Aaron and Deb while 'Paddle' was chosen by Kenneth and Ryan, Adam and Andrea, and Sam and Paul.
5. Which team was eliminated in British Columbia in the end of Leg 1?

Answer: Aaron and Deb

After completing the Detour, teams were told to head to the first Pit Stop of the race at the VanDusen Botanical Garden in Vancouver, but to find it they would need to navigate their way to the center of a hedge maze. Kenneth and Ryan blazed through the tasks and arrived in first place, taking the victory and winning a trip for two to Barcelona, Spain.

While Andrea and Ebonie had a two hour penalty to wait out, they arrived second and only dropped down to seventh as a result of the delay. In the end, mother and son team Aaron and Deb were last to hit the mat and were eliminated.
6. The tasks of Leg 2 took place in what province?

Answer: Alberta

Beginning their second leg of the race, teams were told to head to Fort McMurray in Northern Alberta departing from their first Pit Stop in Vancouver, British Columbia and catching a flight fifteen hundred kilometers northeast. This leg of the race took place less than a year after the end of the massive FortMcMurray wildfires, which wiped out many of the buildings in the area. Teams were also told to expect an opportunity to locate Express Passes. Upon arriving in Fort McMurray, teams were told to locate 2017 Chevrolet Silverados parked in the airport in Alberta; they would contain their next clue.
7. Which team member did not complete the rope course Road Block task in Leg 2?

Answer: Ryan

Arriving in Alberta, teams were told to drive themselves to their first destination, the Wild Play Park at Vista Ridge in the town of Wood Buffalo. This location would contain their Road Block task for this leg of the race which asked 'who's a triple threat?' In this, the selected team members needed to harness up and head up into a towering rope course, navigating the fifty-foot-tall structure to find three parts of their next clue which, when combined, would send them to their next destination. Kenneth, Karen, Shabbir, Andrea, Courtney, Paul, Riya, Korey, and Andrea finished this task.
8. How many Express Passes were up for grabs in Leg 2?

Answer: Three

In addition to the three clue segments found throughout the rope course in Leg 2's Road Block, teams would also be able to locate three different Express Passes which could be handed out to other teams until the end of Leg 3. Navigating the course, Kenneth of Kenneth and Ryan ended up locating all three, inevitably keeping one and handing the others out to other teams in the third leg.
After the Road Block, teams were immediately pushed into a Detour task.
9. How many teams were allowed to participate in either the 'Pull It' or 'Pump It' Detour options in Leg 2?

Answer: Five

After the Road Block, teams chose between 'Pump It' and 'Pull It' for their Detour, both of which only allowed for five teams to participate. In 'Pump It', teams needed to suit up in fire marshall outfits and figure out how to carry and work a water pump that could be used to put out a simulated blaze.

This was a 'Canada 150 Challenge' and it was completed by Andrea and Ebonie, Kenneth and Ryan, Meghan and Courtney, Karen and Bert, and Sam and Paul. In 'Pull It', teams had to go to a skeet shooting range and take turns knocking fifteen clay pigeons out of the sky.

This one was done by Zed and Shabbir, Adam and Andrea, Korey and Ivana, and Dan and Riya.
10. Which team was the second eliminated from the race?

Answer: Dan and Riya

After the Detour, teams went to Phoenix Heli-Flight in Wood Buffalo to solve a math equation to determine how much fuel they needed to fill a helicopter. When the math checked out, they could take a ride to the grounds of their next Pit Stop-- the Miskanaw Golf Club-- and run on foot to the mat at the 16th hole.

The leg was won by Megan and Courtney who left B.C. in last place; they took with them a trip for two to Auckland, New Zealand. Last place went to YouTubers Dan and Riya who were eliminated.
