Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the "Pilot" episode, what is the ghost called?

Answer: Woman in White

According to folklore and legend, a white lady, as a woman in white is more commonly referred to, is a female ghost who experienced some kind of trauma or violence in her life and therefore cannot find peace in death. A white lady was usually betrayed by her husband or fiance.

In this episode of "Supernatural" the woman in white, Constance Welsh, jumped off a bridge after she drowned her children in the bathtub. It becomes apparent during the episode that her husband cheated on her and as a result of this, she kills cheating men. She has the chatchprahse "I can never go home."
2. What do Bloody Mary's victims have in common?

Answer: They all were involved in the death of another person

Bloody Mary's victims were all involved with the death of another person, either directly or indirectly. Charlie's ex-boyfriend killed himself, after telling her he would do it if she breaks up with him. Charlie is therefore a potential victim. Another twist on the legend is that the victim does not have to conjure Mary him/herself for Mary to come after them, they just have to be present in the room (and apparently building as is clear from Mr. Schumaker's death) for Mary to victimize them.
3. What is Dean afraid of in "Phantom Traveller"?

Answer: Flying

Aviophobia is the fear of flying. The fear of flying may be caused by various other fears (phobias) or it could be a fear in itself. It is often accompanied by panic attacks and vomiting.

In this episode Sam finds out that Dean is afraid of flying when he suggests that they have to get on the plane in order to save the people from the demon who wants to crash the plane. While flying, Dean hums Metallica as it calms him down.
4. What is the Reverend's daughter's name in "Hook Man"?

Answer: Lori Sorenson

All the victims of the "Hook Man" in this episode seem to be connected somehow to Lori. The boys run into a problem when trying to destroy the Hook Man as he is buried in an unmarked grave. Lucky for them, the cross pendant worn by Lori is made from silver which belonged to the Hook Man, and they destroy that to get rid of him.
5. What is the psychic's name in "Home"?

Answer: Missouri Moseley

Sam and Dean save a family from a poltergeist in their childhood home. Sam and Dean are also saved by the ghost of their mother in this episode. This is also the episode where we find out that John is not actually missing but just hiding from the boys in Missouri's house.
6. In which town does Dean arrive to investigate missing couples in "Scarecrow"?

Answer: Burkitsville

In this episode the townsfolk sacrifice couples to the "scarecrow" who is actually Vanir. Dean himself is almost sacrificed but lucky for him Sam comes to the rescue. They quickly figure out that the source of the scarecrow's power is an apple tree that is planted in the town and destroy the tree. The couples are sacrificed in order for the town to be blessed by Vanir.
Vanir is a group of gods from Norse mythology who are often associated with fertility.
7. Who uses black magic to control the reaper in "Faith"?

Answer: The preacher's wife

While hunting a demon Dean is electrocuted and suffers from a heart condition and he is only given a few weeks to live. In an effort to save him, Sam finds a preacher who claims that he is also a healer. Dean is chosen to be healed while attending a service; however, at the exact same moment Dean is healed, a teacher dies from a heart attack. Sam and Dean discover that someone is using black magic to control a reaper who, in exchange for the life of another, heals the afflicted person. Thinking that it is the preacher who is controlling the reaper the boys try to stop him it. However, it later transpires that it is his wife who is doing the dark bidding.

In many cultures death is often referred to as the reaper or the grim reaper, some cultures also refer to it as the angel of death. Interestingly enough in ancient Greece 'death' was not always portrayed as being purely evil as they found death to be an inevitable part of life.
8. Which member of the family in the painting is responsible for the deaths in "Provenance"?

Answer: The daughter

A couple buys a creepy looking painting of a family. When they turn in for the night they are killed by having their throats slit with a barber's blade. In an effort to figure out who the ghost is, Sam and Dean go to an art gallery where Sam and the owner of the gallery's daughter (Sarah) hit it off.

They soon discover that Isiah Merchant slaughtered his family with his barber's blade. They burn the painting but it later restores itself. After burning Merchant's body, another murder takes place and it is revealed that the actual ghost is the family's adopted daughter.

The entire family (from the painting) was cremated and this poses a problem. Sam and Sarah are trapped in the house with the ghost who is trying to kill them. Sarah remembers that the dolls way back when were usually made in the likeness of the child and instructs Dean to burn the girl's doll which gets rid of the ghost, as her hair was used for the doll's hair.
9. What make of gun is referred to in "Dead Man's Blood"?

Answer: A Colt

During this episode John tells Sam and Dean that according to legend, Samuel Colt made a gun for a hunter that could kill any demon. They find the Colt and the legend proves to be true when John kills a vampire with the gun.

Interesting fact: There is saying/slogan that goes: "God created all men, but Samuel Colt made all men [and apparently demons] equal."
10. Which song is used for "The Road So Far" segment in "Salvation" at the end of season 1?

Answer: "Carry on Wayward Son" - Kansas

This song, recorded by Kansas, was written by Kerry Livgren and appeared on the album Leftoverture. According to the "Supernatural" Wiki, it is the closest thing that "Supernatural" has to a theme song. And let's face it, no "Supernatural" fan can hear this song without immediately thinking of the series.
