Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chronologically, Gorilla Glacier is in which position on the world map?

Answer: Fourth

Gorilla Glacier is found towards the top of the map, cresting over the snowcapped peak on the island. DK and Diddy need to loop up and over to make their journey, traveling from the Kongo Jungle to the Monkey Mines to the Vine Valley and then into the Gorilla Glacier, a series of snowy, icy levels. It's the fourth of seven major destinations en route to King K. Rool. Halfway there!
2. The further you get in Gorilla Glacier's first level, Snow Barrel Blast, the more what happens?

Answer: The snow falls

This level introduces the Kongs to the frigid mountain setting, and while their arrival isn't much to think about, the stage gets progressively snowier as you go on, blanketing the screen in near whiteout conditions by the time you reach the exit. The level, while not as precarious as some of the later ones in the stage, still forces the Kongs to keep their wits about them as they navigate slippery hills, rotating barrels, and skittish enemies.
3. In Slipslide Ride, which of these features ends up being abnormally slippery?

Answer: Ropes

Set entirely in an ice cave, Slipslide Ride isn't so much abnormal for the less-than-stellar ice floors (which do have less friction, but a normal amount for Gorilla Glacier) as it is for the slippery ropes hanging throughout the level. This part of the stage has ropes which slide the Kongs upward or downward, which is odd, and of course there are Zingers in the way if you get too hasty. Provided your reflexes are quick enough through this icy stage you'll get to the end unscathed.
4. Which animal companion can be found in Ice Age Alley?

Answer: Expresso

Expresso the Ostrich makes a triumphant return in this blizzard-themed stage, but can only be found if you end up hopping into a barrel to a secret location. He does, however, come in handy; the level consists of many large gaps between slippery inclined platforms, most of which are crossed on swinging ropes. If he can avoid enemy shots, you can flutter through a good chunk of the level.

The further along in the level, the storm will also loosen up, which helps considering.
5. Croctopus Chase takes place underwater.

Answer: True

The only underwater stage in the Gorilla Glacier region (which must be freezing to be honest), Croctopus Chase is less about navigating the icy waters than it is simply staying ahead of the charging Croctopi following you through the coral corridors of the stage.

While certain creatures do emerge to block your way when necessary, they're fewer and further between than normal, and much of the stage will likely be spent just flowing through the waters to safety.
6. What is the name of the bird who assists the Kongs in Torchlight Trouble?

Answer: Squawks

Squawks makes his first-ever appearance in a "Donkey Kong Country" game in this short stage, hiding in a box near the start and remaining with the Kongs until the very end. His purpose in this game is to shed a bit of light on the otherwise dark stage; the Kongs head through a cave devoid of light and whichever way the player faces will determine the direction they can see in the tunnels. Squawks doesn't appear again until "Donkey Kong Country 2" in which he plays a much more active role.
7. Torchlight Trouble happens to contain which otherwise new obstacle never seen in a prior level?

Answer: Oil drums

Aside from dealing with Squawks' light source, the player will also put their jumping skills to the test in Torchlight Trouble as many of the platforms in the stage have flaming drums (marked 'OIL') on their edges, making things precarious. Jumps will need to be tight regardless, but the Kongs will also need to spend time avoiding larger-than usual enemies. Looks like light's not the only concern-- there are severe space issues in the cramped level.
8. During the Rope Bridge Rampage stage, do DK and Diddy Kong need to swing on any ropes?

Answer: No

Almost ironically, none of the level really contains a significant number of ropes. While the stage is set in the same type of environment as Vine Valley's Tree Top Town, it may only be named as such due to the way the level is constructed-- on wooden planks suspended high above the ground. Most of the challenges in this stage stem from the perilous jumps on moving platforms, especially those blocked by Zingers and sporting bouncy tires. No one said it was easy.

It's also the last level before the boss of Gorilla Glacier.
9. You're traveling through Gorilla Glacier for the first time. How many levels must you complete before you have a chance to save your game?

Answer: Five

The only level the player doesn't need to complete to reach either Candy's Save Barrel or Funky's Flights is the last one-- Rope Bridge Rampage. You need to make a straight line through Gorilla Glacier stopping at five levels in a row. There is a reprieve with Cranky's spot shortly after the fourth stage, Croctopus Chase, but his value in the game is totally up to you to decide. Either way, there's no leaving the area or saving your progress until it's mostly complete. Hope you're stocked up on extra lives!
10. The final boss of the Gorilla Glacier is similar to the boss of what prior stage of the game?

Answer: Kongo Jungle

The final stage of Gorilla Glacier is known as Really Gnawty Rampage, mainly because the boss is a step up from Kongo Jungle's 'Very Gnawty', a beaver with a temper hoarding the Kongs' bananas. While the original Gnawty used small jumps to hop along the battleground, his more fearsome counterpart takes the opportunity to leap into the air several times after getting pounced upon. Once again, only five hits are needed to bring him down; some things don't change.
