Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which region of the game are we if we're riding in a mine cart?

Answer: Monkey Mines

Mine Cart Carnage set the standard for mine carts in "Donkey Kong Country" games and it's no surprise that we're stopping off there. Although relatively easy by series standards, the level appears near the start of the second world, Monkey Mines, which varies in setting from caverns to ancient ruins. Mine Cart Carnage is the first of only a few mine cart levels in the game though they do appear in later stages as well.
2. In which location in the game are we if there are cannonballs being fired at us?

Answer: Gang-plank Galleon

The only place where we'd be at risk of getting hit by cannonballs is in Gang-plank Galleon, the final location in the game and King K. Rool's last stand, where the final battle occurs. The entire level is a single pirate ship off the coast of Kong Island, and it also acts as the first world in the game's sequel, "Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest". Cannonballs are part of K. Rool's second wave of attacks; they're dropped from above.
3. In which stage are we if we're able to visit Vulture Culture and Tree Top Town?

Answer: Vine Valley

Vine Valley is the third stage of the game, and reaching here generally means we know what we're doing, having gone through most of the basics in the first two stages. Both Vulture Culture and Tree Top Town are found in the first portion of the stage-- they're the first two respective stages-- and both have distinct forest themes. Later levels of Vine Valley take us to a forest temple and, eventually, underwater before a face-off against a giant bee.
4. In which major stage of "Donkey Kong Country" are we if we're at risk of walking into a snowstorm?

Answer: Gorilla Glacier

Gorilla Glacier, the fourth stage of the game, takes us to the tip-top of Kong Island for an adventure in the ice and snow. While most of this stage is set outside in near-blizzard conditions, the trail actually leads us through caverns and icy waters as well.

Some levels, like Snow Barrel Blast, actually take place during a blizzard (and in well-timed barrels) but progressing through the levels will likely lighten the snow up a bit. Luckily, we aren't hindered by the cold.
5. Where are we if we're seeing a Gnawty for the first time?

Answer: Kongo Jungle

Gnawty, one of the most basic enemies of the game, is a squat beaver who can be jumped on to be defeated. An indication of its beatability, if anything, is that the boss of Kongo Jungle is just a larger version of the basic Gnawty (known as Really Gnawty). Gnawty can be found as early on as the game's first level. Kongo Jungle, our first destination, is DK's home and features a variety of levels ranging from lush jungles to caves to underwater locales.
6. What world would we be in if we can visit Candy Kong before visiting Funky or Cranky?

Answer: Kremkroc Industries Inc.

Kremkroc Industries Inc., the fifth stage of the game, is a factory-based location containing a hefty dose of pollutants and mechanical bric-a-brac placed in such a way as to reduce our chances of advancing (as it goes). We'll end up being marred by grimy waters, flaming oil barrels, and, well, Kremlings, as we navigate these levels. Luckily, Candy Kong appears after a few levels, and on the first half of the map; Cranky and Funky appear in the second half.
7. In which level can we not ride an animal companion?

Answer: Torchlight Trouble

Torchlight Trouble, one of the levels found on Gorilla Glacier, does contain Squawks the Parrot in his first appearance in the series but in this game, Squawks can not be ridden. Instead, he follows us with a light, intending to guide the Kongs through the stage. We can ride Squawks in "Donkey Kong Country 2". Winky's Walkway contains Winky the Frog (in Monkey Mines), Coral Capers contains Enguarde (in Kongo Jungle), and Temple Tempest contains Espresso (in Vine Valley).
8. Which level could we not possibly be in in this game?

Answer: Bramble Scramble

Trick Track Trek can be found in Kremkroc Industries Inc., Platform Perils is the final level of Chimp Caverns, and Orang-utan Gang is in Vine Valley. Unfortunately, Bramble Scramble does not make an appearance in this game, instead being relegated to the Krazy Kremland region of "Donkey Kong Country 2". Bramble Scramble is just one in a series of levels based entirely in a giant briar patch, one of the more interesting level settings in the game. We couldn't possibly be in two games at once. ;)
9. We're not in the Monkey Mines but we're being chased by Gnawties in millstones. Which level could we be in?

Answer: Temple Tempest

Although we find Temple Tempest in the Vine Valley stage of the game, less than half-way through "Donkey Kong Country", it's the last of the temple levels. As such it's also the last level of the game to contain the millstone, a large hamster-wheel-like obstacle propelled entirely by a single Gnawty in the center.

In fact, in this level the millstones come off their hinges to chase us. The only other level with millstones is Millstone Mayhem in the Monkey Mines.
10. Great leaping Croctopi! Where in "Donkey Kong Country" could we be if we're swimming?

Answer: Poison Pond

Poison Pond, despite its name, is set in a perfectly-navigable underwater portion of Kremkroc Industries Inc. and regardless of whether or not the green water is toxic we need to make our way through to the end in this final water level of the game. All in all, there are four swimming levels in "Donkey Kong Country", each appearing in a different stage of the game. All of them also feature Enguarde the Swordfish if we're so inclined.
